Frostpunk 2 is set to bring a frigid blast of survival-based city building in July, but if you want to get chilly in spring, you'll be able to play the game very soon thanks to a seven-day beta starting April 15.
The Frostpunk 2 beta had previously been announced for April, but now we know specifically that it'll kick off on April 15 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST and run until April 22. Over on Steam, developer 11 Bit Studios says this beta "features a part of the sandbox mode called the Utopia Builder Preview," but we don't have any more details on the content than that.
To access this beta, you'll need to pre-order Frostpunk 2's Deluxe Edition, which is currently $67.49 / £56.69 / €67.49, including a 10% discount on Steam. (The standard version of the game is $44.99 / £37.99 / €44.99.) The Deluxe Edition also includes access to three post-launch DLC packs, 72 hours of early access to the game, and a variety of other digital goodies.
While Frostpunk 2 is also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, this beta is only available on PC. The full game will be a part of PC Game Pass, but again, this beta only comes with the Deluxe Edition, which you'll have to pay extra for.
The original Frostpunk was already arguably the world's most stressful - and darkest - city-building game, and it looks like the sequel is ramping things up with horrifying-sounding additions like democracy.

Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
The Entertainment Software Association, the big trade organization for the video game industry in the US, says it's fully opposed to a proposed copyright exemption that would allow gaming scholars to access online libraries of preserved games.
Pizza Tower fans have been waiting for the well-loved PC indie platformer to make the jump to consoles, but this week's Nintendo Indie Showcase once again failed to deliver that announcement. Instead, we saw a very similar-looking game called Antonblast - and while some elements of the fandom were quick to call it a "Pizza Tower clone," both games owe their inspiration to a much older Nintendo classic.
If you're looking to get beta access to Hades 2, developer Supergiant Games has just opened sign-ups for the game's technical test.
The ESRB rating for Star Wars Outlaws has arrived, and while it's largely what you'd expect from an action game in the sci-fi franchise, it has revealed one notable detail: Sabacc is finally going to be playable in a Star Wars video game.
Over a week after Palworld's last big patch, developer Pocketpair has confirmed what the community already suspected: Pal damage got a big, big nerf. Luckily, that nerf was accidental and it's now been fixed with a new update.
Destiny 2's latest big update, Into the Light, launched with a hardcore horde mode called Onslaught that at least one member of the development team thought would be impossible for a solo player to complete. You can probably guess where this is going: somebody has already soloed Onslaught on its highest difficulty.
Star Wars Outlaws is set to feature an array of cameos from existing franchise canon, but it's also got an entirely original cast of assassins that'll come after you when you've made a criminal syndicate mad.
Yep, that new CE-27 Ground Breaker armor released as part of the latest Helldivers 2 Warbond really was meant to have a different passive installed, and the devs at Arrowhead are already working on a fix to make things right.
15 years after it first entered development - and nine years after it first hit Early Access - the legendary roguelike RPG Caves of Qud is finally set to launch in 2024. After announcing that news last year, the devs at Freehold Games have now provided a roadmap to launch.
If I've learned one thing covering Steam games over the past decade or so, it's that people love porn. If I've learned two things, the other is that people love games featuring Dwarves. Deep Rock Galactic has had players singing 'rock and stone' for years, and its Vampire Survivors-style spinoff has been no less popular. Just over a month after the start of Early Access, the Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor devs have unleashed a host of stats detailing how players have been getting along so far.
2024 has kicked off with a list of bangers ranging from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth to Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and as excellent as those games are, I'm growing increasingly desperate for more bite-sized titles to maintain a varied gaming diet. And Castaway, an upcoming indie that bills itself as a "short and sweet adventure" and looks like a perfect tribute to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, feels like just the thing.
The patch notes for the latest Palworld update include a detail that might just be more exciting than any of the new content or improvements: the promise of a big ol' "content-packed update" landing this summer.
