The team over at Naughty Dog hasn’t revealed anything substantial in a good while. However, while the studio hasn’t unveiled anything recently, the multiplayer project was revealed in 2018. Naughty Dog has been working on a standalone multiplayer gameplay experience that is set within The Last of Us universe. Details had been slim, but the project has been in development ever since, and as far as we know officially, the development team is continuing to push through the game for an eventual release. However, one insider has come out to reveal the game was killed off.

A developer brought in to work on the upcoming The Last of Us multiplayer game has left Naughty Dog after less than a year.
Naughty Dog’s attempts to create a live service multiplayer game set in the Last of Us universe don’t seem to be working out too well. Recent reports have claimed that the developer’s standalone multiplayer The Last of Us project has been put “on ice”, which in turn followed reports from earlier in the year that the project’s development team had been scaled back after an internal re-evaluation by Sony.
In the video game industry, there will always be a period of time within a game’s development cycle when someone, or a group of people, will be “laid off.” Typically, certain roles are on a short-term contract status as they’re needed for certain things, and their job is completed. That’s why it’s a big honor to be given a full-time gig at a game company because once you finish with one title, you will just be moved over to the next. However, a new report states that Naughty Dog has laid off staff in one area a bit early because one of their games is stalling development-wise.
Naughty Dog, the renowned Santa Monica-based game development studio owned by Sony, is cutting jobs, albeit not internally. The news comes from a fresh Kotaku report. Citing anonymous sources, it reveals that at least 25 contract workers were cut last week, mostly in the quality assurance department (though art and production teams were also reportedly affected in some capacity). The report also says the affected employees received pressure not to disclose the news. They won't get any severance, either. Their contracts expire at the end of this month, and they are expected to keep working until then.
Naughty Dog has reportedly suffered a round of layoffs, with the troubled The Last of Us multiplayer spin-off said to be “on ice”.
12 years after its release, The Binding of Isaac will soon be getting online multiplayer.
