Superman: Legacy actor Edi Gathegi has graced fans with an update on his gains in preparation for his Mister Terrific role in James Gunn's new rebooted DC Universe, much to the delight of users on social media.
With Supermanbeing one of the cornerstones of every DC venture, it was no surprise when the Man of Steel was chosen to kick off the new DCU's live-acton slate with Superman: Legacy. It would be revealed in short order that the film wouldn’t be an origin story and would feature several other heroes, one of whom was confirmed when James Gunn teased Mr Terrific joining the DCU on social media, specifically showcasing the second hero to bear the name, Micheal Holt. The role of Mister Terrific, an eccentric genius who fights crime with the help of his proprietary T-spheres, is played by Gathegi in Superman: Legacy.
Since the announcement, the film has been a hot topic on social media, including users posting Superman: Legacy fanart showcasing potential designs for Mister Terrific and others. Now, Gathegi has shown fans his impressive progress towards the iconic superhero look. Taking to his official account on Instagram, Gathegi posted a picture showing off his immense gains and sharing an inspirational caption explaining how he got the motivation to get so shredded. “Four and a half months ago I lovingly referred to myself as doughboy. I was carrying a lot grief, some of it in the form of subcutaneous fat pockets in my midsection and was probably in the worst shape of my life. Then god gave me a challenge that would force me back to my passions," he wrote. «I’m proud of where we are today and none of it possible without the Michelangelo of fitness Paolo Mascitti and the support of my goose @adriana_ptk who with patience and perspective also accepted the mission given to us. Mr. Terrific reporting for duty. Who’s next?”
Gathegi previously showed his gym progress for Superman: Legacy and has now gotten even more shredded for the role. While Mister Terrific isn’t a brawn-over-brain type hero, he’s still incredibly jacked, as befits an Olympic athlete and five-time black belt holder. Gathergi's efforts to embody the hero physique are appreciated, as are the similar efforts that costars David Corenswet and María Gabriela de Faría, who have also shown fans how much progress they’ve made ahead of Superman: Legacy's 2025 release.
It’s encouraging to see the cast of the upcoming film putting in the work, as their performances will be integral to proving that Gunn is right to include other heroes in Superman: Legacy. Fans will have to wait until the premiere to see what the plot has in store for the heroes involved.
Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025.
