Game streaming platform Streamlabs has released an official plugin for Open Broadcaster Software (OBS).
Until now, Streamlabs and OBS have offered two separate streaming solutions, each with their own pros and cons.
While OBS has a lower CPU usage and has extra flexibility because of its open-source nature, it’s considered by some to be a little difficult for newcomers to get used to its interface.
Streamlabs, meanwhile, offers a more user-friendly streaming platform, with built-in features like notifications, widgets, monetisation and built-in chat.
The new official Streamlabs plugin for OBS, however, theoretically ends the debate, bringing the user-friendly features of Streamlabs to the more flexible and efficient OBS software.
While the Streamlabs plugin is free, users will have to subscribe to its paid Streamlabs Ultra subscription for advanced features, such as premium overlays and Multistream, which lets streamers broadcast to multiple platforms at the same time (Twitch and YouTube, for example).
“Streaming is all about the power of community, and this belief has inspired the release of our new plugin for OBS,” Streamlabs head of product Ashray Urs said in a statement.
“By breaking down the barriers between our unique solutions, we can help streamers achieve the best possible go-live experience.”
OBS head of user experience Taylor Giampaolo added: “Many of our users rely on Streamlabs for their vast array of live streaming tools and features. Having those tools and streaming software all in one place is an incredible benefit to creators.
“We’re excited that the Streamlabs Plugin will bring that experience directly to OBS Studio. This new integration will help support new and veteran streamers and streamline the process of setting up and going live.”
