It's been a while since we've had an official update on Starfield's long-awaited Shattered Space story DLC, which was first revealed even before the game launched last September. Thankfully, Starfield director Todd Howard was on hand to give us an official release window, as he recently revealed in an interview during the most recent Kinda Funny Gamescast that Shattered Space is currently scheduled to release this Fall.
Howard reveals the window rather casually at the 35-minute mark, but unfortunately doesn't provide us with a specific release date, which is understandable given it was more of an informal interview. At the very least, it's nice to have confirmation that Shattered Space will launch in 2024, and that we can now expect the expansion to launch at some point within the next 7 months.
In the interview, Todd Howard also confirms that one of Starfield's regular updates will be announced later this week, and from his description, it sounds like a pretty bulky one. For starters, Howard reveals that there are going to be some big additions to the ship-building portion of the game, though he doesn't go into any specifics, and some work has been done on the city maps, presumably to make them much better and help you get around easier.
Ship building became the big one, and in the update that we have coming, I think it's gonna get announced in a few days actually this week. Got some great stuff for ship building in it.
Obviously, these two features won't be the only things the update will introduce, and Howard himself said earlier this month that Starfield's next update will have some "really good" stuff in it. Hopefully, we get some decent new additions this week which will add a bit more longevity to the base game, and that they will tide us over until the release of Shattered Space this Fall.
Either that, or you can dive into the game's modding scene for your Starfield fix, which is gradually getting just as impressive as Skyrim and Fallout's. One of the more impressive mods to have been released recently includes a "DLC sized" mod called the Galactic Colonies Expanse, which adds new systems such as farming, as well as giant mechs.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has made lofty promises with the little that it’s been shown off so far, with its crunching, brutal combat looking to recapture the vibe of its acclaimed predecessor. A lot of that will, of course, will come through the game’s campaign – which can be played both solo and co-op – but will a PvP multiplayer component also be on offer? After, all, PvP in the original Space Marine was quite a fan-favourite, so will its sequel follow in its footsteps?
Starfield is set to add some long-awaited features with its upcoming update, including graphics modes on console, expanded ship building options, surface maps, and much more, while later on in the year, Bethesda Game Studios will also finally be adding a land vehicle to the game. Beyond that, however, the developer is also working on a full-fledged expansion for the space-faring RPG in the form of Shattered Steel, and though not much is known about it yet, some interesting new details may have potentially been unearthed.
Early Access title Kerbal Space Program 2 is currently being review bombed on Steam, after the game's developer, Intercept Games, was closed down by Take-Two. The closure has naturally led to questions surrounding the future of Kerbal Space Program 2, which first entered Early Access in February 2023.
It's a pretty exciting time to be a Starfield fan at the moment, with Todd Howard revealing that the game's Shattered Space DLC will release this Fall, and that land vehicles are finally being added at some point in the near future. However, Bethesda may have also accidentally shown us something it didn't mean to in that same video, as there's a brief moment in which story details for Shattered Space may have been revealed.
Starfield Update 4, which launched in Steam Beta on May 1, seems to have finally satisfied a lot of fans who had previously abandoned Bethesda's outer space RPG. After a lackluster player reception at launch, fan reaction to this newest Starfield update seems to be overwhelmingly positive.
's 1.11.33 update is now live, and it brings one of the most highly requested features to the game. This is the biggest update to the game since launch. That's drawn some criticism, as updates have been slow to come. However, announcements this week suggest that Bethesda hasn't forgotten about: the DLC finally has a release window, and for the first time since release, it seems like there's a concrete roadmap for moving forward.
Bethesda has inadvertently teased that Starfield's Shattered Space DLC may have a lot to do with one of the game's main factions, House Va'ruun. Starfield has just recently revealed a major new update that will finally bring maps to each major city, add new icons for the different shops and eateries, provide new ways for players to customize their ships, and much more.
Starfield will have a big year as the space RPG approaches its first anniversary. Beyond the massive May update, Bethesda Game Studios previously confirmed it is working on a DLC titled Shattered Space. Though details on the paid expansion are slim, Bethesda seemingly confirmed it focuses on the House Va'ruun.
Bethesda has pulled the curtain back on the big Starfield update that's coming on May 15. Since launch, Bethesda has released multiple updates for Starfield to address fan feedback and squash lingering bugs. However, the next update for the game may very well be the biggest to date, implementing significant improvements that will benefit those playing specifically on Xbox as well as PC players.
Last month, GTA 6 publishers Take-Two Interactive announced plans to "rationalize" their "pipeline" by laying off five per cent of their workforce - around 580 people - and cancelling various games. As part of that, they're reportedly now doing away with 70 positions at their Seattle offices - Seattle being the home of the Take-Two-owned Intercept Games, the current developers of space sim Kerbal Space Program 2.
Intercept Games is reportedly shutting down as Take-Two enacts their cost-reduction plan and layoffs across the company, with the Kerbal Space Program 2 developer’s continued existence now in doubt. Despite this, Take-Two has pledged to continue providing support and updates for the game’s PC Early Access release.
