Bethesda has released a new update for Starfield, with patch 1.8.86 adding two much-requested features for people who are still playing the game, alongside a fresh batch of bug fixes and further optimisation.
PC players with Nvidia cards can rejoice at the official integration of DLSS upscaling. Depending on your GPU, you’ll be able to use DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation to improve performance and image quality. Nvidia gamers should also see their cards coming closer to their general standing when compared to AMD cards, which had a significant performance advantage with the original release.
Alongside that, they’ve also added the ability to just eat food and drink liquids as you come across and find them in the environment. Up until now, you would add them to your inventory instead, and then have to trawl through the long lists in order to actually consume them. As in real life, food should be enjoyed and not feel like a tedious chore, and when they only give you minor health bumps when consumed, there’s really not much point stashing them for later.
Beyond that there’s further GPU optimisations, better threading for CPU usage, optimised shader compilation, some tweaks to HDR settings, and generally a sprucing up of some glitches and bugs through the game.
This update introduces Nvidia DLSS support for our PC players. Compatible Nvidia graphic cards can now use DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation.
By popular request, we have added the ability to ingest food and drink items upon finding them in the environment. You can enjoy those Chunks immediately or save them for later. The choice is yours.
