Microsoft has announced what is set to be its biggest booth presence yet for Gamescom 2023, with a large number of notable games being playable by the public for the first time, including Payday 3, Stalker 2 and Towerborne. However, two of the biggest Xbox games, Starfield and Forza Motorsport, will not be playable on the show floor.
Starfield, Forza Motorsport and Ara: History Untold from Oxide Games will only be shown during “exclusive theatre presentations”, which is pretty naff when you think that Starfield is out just a couple weeks later on 6th September and Forza on 10th October.
Still, there will be over 25 games that can be played at the Xbox booth, including Jusant from DontNod, Armored Core VI by FromSoftware, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Under the Waves from Quantic Dreams, Persona 5 Tactica and more.
This will also be a celebration of 10 years of the [email protected] programme, and so Paradox’s Lamplighter’s League, Thunderful’s SteamWorld Build, Amplifier’s Lightyear Frontier, and other smaller and indie games will also be included.
All of this is being divided into three blocks within Hall 8 of the Koelnmesse, with the full line ups and features as follows:
The show floor will be accessible during the following times at the show:

What do the following games have in common?
The Ghostrunner 2 release date has been leaked and confirmed by the game's publisher today.
As Forza Motorsport’s launch continues to draw closer, developer Turn 10 Studios is keeping up a consistence cadence of reveals for the tracks that will be featured in the racing sim upon release, from new additions like Grand Oak Raceway to returning favourites like Road America and Maple Valley Raceway. Now, another track in the latter group has been revealed.
The busy fall calendar of game releases remains in flux. Remedy Entertainment and publisher Epic Games have pushed back the Alan Wake II release date by 10 days to October 27th, and it seems the decision isn't specifically to do with giving the studio more time to polish the game. "October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games," a tweet on the Alan Wake Twitter (ugh, X) account reads.
How will Starfield fare with critics? We'll know soon.
Publisher BlitWorks Games and developer Foreign Gnomes have announced Everhood: Eternity Edition, an enhanced version of the musical action RPG for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It will launch on September 28.
Alan Wake 2 is being delayed by just over a week, and its developer is being pretty candid about the reasoning.
Five of the 20 tracks that Forza Motorsport will launch with in October are going to be completely new – like the recently revealed Grand Oak Raceway – but plenty, of course, are going to be familiar to fans of the series. Returning favourites like Road America have been previously revealed, and developer Turn 10 Studios has now added another name to that list.
“Dark and twisted fairytale” puzzle platformer Ugly will launch for Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on September 14, publisher Graffiti Games and developer Team Ugly announced. The Xbox One version is newly announced.
Forza Motorsport has a new short trailer, with this one showing off one of the tracks. The track revealed in this new trailer is Grand Oak Raceway. The raceway has a few long straights, broken up by curves where driving skills will be tested. The trailer shows driving in wet and raining conditions, with the car skidding and drifting a bit as it goes through the curve.
Players hoping to hop into with a friend by their side on launch day will have to rethink their plans. Developer Turn 10 has announced that its upcoming racing title won’t support split-screen play at launch when it comes to PC and Xbox Series X|S on October 10.
