A former Stardew Valley developer known as Arthur «Mr. Podunkian» Lee announced his new game, Sunkissed City, is officially coming later this year. The self-developed game combines many well-loved features from Stardew Valleywith the thrills of city living, giving fans of the farming sim an experience with a new twist but a similar feel.
Lee previously worked alongside ConcernedApe on Stardew Valley, playing a role in the creation of the game’s 1.4 and 1.5 updates, as well as its upcoming 1.6 update. While working on Stardew Valley, Lee developed an engine entitled Sanpo for use on future ConcernedApe projects. Lee left ConcernedApe LLC in 2022 to pursue his own projects, and upon his departure from ConcernedApe, Lee says he “was given his blessing to use it…” for his farming game. Since then, Lee has been regularly updating fans on Twitter about his progress on the game, which was recently officially titled Sunkissed City.
Lee announced that Sunkissed City is now available to wishlist on Steam and has an expected Q4 2024 release date on PC, with console release hopefully soon after. With inspiration drawn from realistic life sims like Harvest Moon and, of course, Stardew Valley, Sunkissed City is a highly anticipated arrival for fans of these iconic titles. The life sim is set in Apollo City, a funky seaside metropolis where players can befriend its interesting residents and work to bring back life to the city. Sunkissed City will feature many similar skills and activities to Stardew Valley, such as farming, foraging, and fishing, but with exciting additional features to enjoy.
Players will explore the city as a new hire at the Pico Corporation, tasked with vouching for the company’s new eco-focused initiatives. But with lifeless waters, aggressive wildlife, monster-infested sewers, and mysterious migraines plaguing Apollo City residents, it seems Sunkissed City could be an eco-conscious game, tasking players with restoring the city’s environment. Along the way, players can level up in unique skills like reading, eating, and sleeping, in addition to classic skills of the genre such as cooking, fishing, combat, and the like. Of course, players can befriend the quirky residents of Apollo City as well as enjoy the shops they run, such as Salon Flamingo’s hairdresser, Mingo, or the owner of The Weird Dog Café, Henk.
Sunkissed City offers lots of fun features for fans of the sim genre, as well as the groovy and neon-filled setting of Apollo City. It seems Stardew Valley fans have lots to look forward to, with both Sunkissed City and Stardew Valley's 1.6 update expected to arrive in 2024, and Haunted Chocolatier on the horizon as well.
