Developer Nightdive Studios and Lucasfilm Games announced the remaster release date, confirming that the upcoming game would release early next year.
The Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster release date is set for February 28, 2024, when the game will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game will arrive almost 29 years after the original game, which launched in March 1995.
Nightdive Studios is the team behind the recent remake of System Shock, as well as the remakes of Quake II and Rise of the Triad. The Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster will run up to 4K resolution at 120FPS, except on the Nintendo Switch. The remaster will also sport higher resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for modern console gamepads.
Originally released in 1995, Star Wars: Dark Forces takes place before the original Star Wars film and focuses on Kyle Katarn, a mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance and trying to take down the Empire’s secretive Dark Trooper Project. The game was a massive success for LucasArts at the time, selling nearly 1 million copies by 1999.
