Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Vinyl, Availalbe For Pre-Order Now

The hype train for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was kicked up a gear last week as an extended look at the sequel was shown off during PlayStation's State of Play. The epic second chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy was also given a release date of February 29, 2024. If five more months is too long to wait for more from the series, Square Enix is offering up the opportunity to shave a month off that time and experience some of what the game has to offer early.

You can do that by listening to Rebirth's vinyl, revealed by Square and now available to pre-order through the studio's online Japanese store. Retailing for 4950 Yen, or a little more than $33, Rebirth's vinyl doesn't have a published tracklist yet. Possibly because track names will give away spoilers, although if that's the case, we're going to have a problem come February when people have the vinyl but the release of Rebirth is still a month away.

Odds are if you're interested in owning a very special copy of Rebirth's soundtrack, you don't really care about what the tracks on the vinyl are called. You know it's going to include all of the music from the game, and you know it's all going to sound pretty special, and hauntingly familiar if you've played the original. While the focus of Remake was on how it looked and the story beat changes compared to the original, the way it pulled from and adapted the OG game's soundtrack was also pretty great.

Before the game arrives, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's soundtrack will be released on vinyl. Featuring a Tifa and an Aerith side, the tracks included on each may hint at what players can expect from the sequel.

Although the vinyl's tracklist hasn't been revealed, you can take a look at its stunning cover art, and the item description reads that the OST has an Aerith side and a Tifa side. Spoilers ahead if you haven't played the original Final Fantasy 7, perhaps the vinyl is hinting at a pivotal moment from the PS1 game and how it might differ in Rebirth's split timeline.

Perhaps in one timeline Aerith dies, as was the case in the original game, but in the other timeline, Tifa dies instead. Cloud and co. may then desperately try to figure out a way for them both to survive only to eventually admit defeat and realize that's not possible. Before I dive too deep into the Rebirth theory well, I'm going to step back here and simply direct your attention to how pretty the Tifa and Aerith vinyl art looks. Hey, here's hoping I'm wrong and the two sides simply represent which songs from the game the characters like most.
