The latest update for Spider-Man 2 accidentally gives players access to developer Insomniac Games‘ debug tools.
The Version 1.002.000 update, which went live today, adds a New Game+ which includes new features including the ability to go beyond the base game level cap, unlock new symbiote suit styles and upgrade gadgets with golden styles.
Other new features added in the update include the ability to replay missions, and the ability to change time of day in the post-game.
However, players soon discovered that it also unlocked access to the game’s debug menus, which are used during development to skip to certain parts of the game, perform diagnostics and turn on various modifications.
Some players are also suggesting that the debug menu lists missions which aren’t in the game and could be DLC, relating to a separate character who hasn’t yet appeared in the game, Beetle.
In the Spider-Man comics, Beetle is a villain who’s also the daughter of Tombstone, a character who already features in the game.
It should be noted, however, that not all content or references found in a game’s files actually end up being used, and there’s therefore a chance that the missions listed in this debug menu refer to previous planned content that was cancelled.
Insomniac posted a message on its official X account, saying it was already working on a fix to remove access to the debug menu and warning players that using it could lead to issues with their game.
“We’re aware the latest game update may have inadvertently allowed access to a development game menu,” it wrote. “There’s a hotfix on the way.
“Please note that using this menu could corrupt your saves and trophy progress. There is no risk associated with playing the game as intended.”
