Sony doubled down on game TV and film adaptations at CES 2024

At CES 2024, Sony championed the success of its game adaptations. Last year, the company released its television adaptations of The Last of Us on HBO and Twisted Metal on Peacock, in addition to its Gran Turismo film.
These projects have been major successes for the entertainment giant. Both of The Last of Us and Twisted Metal were renewed for second seasons. Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studio further spotlighted the company’s efforts at CES.
“The Last of Us generated tremendous interest from both gamers and non-gamers alike. It was the second most watched HBO series premiere in 13 years. As of this past weekend, The Last of Us has already won eight Emmy awards and is up for five more, including Best Drama Series,” said Pope. “Twisted Metal was also released last year and became one of the top five original series launched on Peacock to date.”
Additionally, Pope announced that writing was under way for two new game adapations. A God of War series for Prime Video and a Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation for Netflix are in the works. Following this, CEO Kenichiro Yoshida highlighted Sony’s partnership with Nintendo on its upcoming live action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
