The Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Superstars is setting out to be a solid one, judging from information coming from this year's Tokyo Game Show.
As reported and translated by Noisy Pixel, the game's Development Producer and Character Designer Naoto Oshima spoke with Japanese website Denfaminicogamer, confirming the new entry in the series will run at smooth 60 frames per second on Nintendo Switch. While this sounded like a given, considering how undemanding the game looks, it's still nice to receive confirmation.
Sonic Superstars will set itself apart from most modern Sonic the Hedgehog games by featuring gameplay inspired by the 2D entries in the series. Controlling Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, players will travel to the North Star Island to defeat Doctor Eggman and Fang the Hunter, whom he hired to create an army of giant animals. With countless loops to run through, rings to collect, Special Stages to complete, and more, Sonic Superstars is setting out to become the true successor of the classic 16-bit 2D games.
The latest entry in the series released on PC and consoles last year is Sonic Frontiers. While the game does have its own share of issues, it is a more than worthy play, as I highlighted in my review of the PC version.
Sonic Frontiers may not be the best Sonic the Hedgehog ever made, but it's definitely in the upper echelon of the franchise. The new open-world formula works surprisingly well even with its issues, and Cyber Space stages and combat are well-designed, engaging and, most of all, fun. With some tweaks, the Sonic Frontiers formula could be the basis for the franchise moving forward, potentially bringing it back to its glory days.
Sonic Superstars launches on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One on October 17th.
Warner Bros. has released the first screenshots showing Hogwarts Legacy running on Nintendo Switch.
The Hogwarts Legacy video game was easily one of the more anticipated RPGs for 2023. Fans couldn’t wait to partake in their own magical adventure full of quests and locations to explore. However, while the game had its set of delays, it landed on all the major platforms besides the Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, the Nintendo Switch version of the game was not killed off. Instead, the development team over at Avalanche Software just noted that this game was pushed back before they were ready to release on the platform. Today, we’re finding out that the first set of screenshots for the Nintendo Switch version of the game was unveiled.
SEGA has released the launch trailer and screenshots for Sonic Superstars, which is available today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Sega is planning to release a new Sonic the Hedgehog game next year, in addition to DLC for the upcoming Superstars.
There are many ways you can easily measure the success of the Nintendo Switch, but one of the biggest ones is that despite being over six years old, it’s still selling like hotcakes in various parts of the world. This is a testament to how good the system is and the many games that newcomers can get right off the bat to start their gaming journeys on the platform. To that end, in Japan, sales of the Switch have been higher than one would expect over both the last week and the fiscal quarter, pointing to an upcoming set of releases as the “catalyst” for this event.
The Nintendo Switch is six years old at this point, but fans just can’t seem to get enough of it. A recent Bloomberg report has revealed a sudden spike in console sales in the region of Japan following the launch of a Super Mario-themed Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch might not be everyone’s go-to platform for playing MMORPGs, but it’s still a handheld device that you can carry along for some quick questing. There are quite a few MMOs out there for the Switch that you can consider checking out if you are looking for games to invest some time into. Do note that a lot of the MMOs that are available on the Switch are available only in Japan so you might need to look up community guides to understand what’s going on. Here are our picks for the best MMOs that you should check out on the Nintendo Switch.
The first review of Sonic Superstars has been published.
Among the most requested features for the unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatibility with its predecessor. While rumors have been conflicting so far, it seems like the new console will indeed be able to play games released on the current Switch, judging from some recent findings.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder's producer, Takashi Tezuka, has commented on Sonic Superstars launching so close to the latest Mario game, calling it an "interesting coincidence".
The Shiren series has long been a niche one even among the Mystery Dungeon titles. It’s Spike Chunsoft’s own entirely original take on Mystery Dungeon that isn’t based on existing properties such as Dragon Quest or Pokemon and has long since been popular in Japan but not quite as sought after anywhere else. The last entry we saw localized was a remake in the form of Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fates which was originally a DS title before it made its way to modern systems. The newest title, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island was originally announced as coming to Japan with no word on a localization. Fortunately fans no longer need to worry as we’ve finally gotten our confirmed English release for the title to make a splash onto Nintendo Switch next year. The new art style is no longer sprite based and instead entirely 3D models rather akin to the recent Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake we had a few years back. This charming new take on Shiren seems absolutely packed full of life and is promising to bring back the classic gameplay and challenge that so many knew and loved it for.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has outlined Nintendo Switch’s longevity, and it’s a whole lot longer than you probably expect.
