Crunchyroll and the official Solo Leveling Instagram account announced that the anime will be getting a second season, after the final episode aired on Saturday. The second season, titled, Solo Leveling – Arise From the Shadow –, is confirmed to stream on Crunchyroll when it airs.
A trailer, as well as character art of Igris were released together when the news broke. No release date has been confirmed yet. The trailer can be seen below.
The final episode of the first season of Solo Leveling revealed the outcome of the Job-Change Quest that Sung Jinwoo startedin the 11th episode of the series, as well as the commencement of Choi Jong In's Jeju Island Reconaissance mission. The last episode had a post-credits scene in which Choi's party manages to get their hands on a dead giant ant from the island, with looks of horror and apprehension on their faces as it pans to a significant development: the ants are evolving, and this one, in particular, has wings. The episode wraps up the season in a sort of full-circle fashion as the first episode of the Solo Leveling anime, which began airing on January 6 and kicked off with a glimpse into the Third Jeju Island Raid in which a number of powerful Hunters lost their lives.
Fans who have followed the original manhwa will be excited about the next season, especially looking at how the series has been slowly building up the lore around Jeju Island. Beyond the upcoming Jeju Island arc, the 12th episode of the Solo Leveling anime saw the development of Sung Jinwoo into the Shadow Monarch, a title bestowed upon him by the System after he overcame the final challenge presented to him by the Job-Change Quest. This title is specifically an evolution of the Necromancer secret occupation that he receives after accepting the reward for his victory. With this, Jinwoo is able to turn the dead into Shadow Soldiers under his command, a turning point for the character and the series.
The first season of Solo Leveling ran for 12 episodes from January to March 2024, with Crunchyroll collaborating with Allso to create a two-part documentary about the production and development of Solo Leveling as a cultural phenomenon. Season 1 was directed by Shunsuke Nakashige at A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online franchise), with Taito Ban playing the role of Sung Jinwoo in Japanese, and Aleks Le in English.
Hiroyuki Sawano was responsible for the music, while character designs based on the manhwa by Chugong, DUBU, Redice Studio and h-goon were done by Tomoko Sudo. The first season was effectively the prelude to the true bulk of the Solo Leveling plot, and if the upward trajectory of the series over the course of its first 12 episodes is to continue, the second season stands to be even more exciting
