Having enough Bells in to execute the most elaborate terraforming plans is the dream, but it seems Nintendo has put a cap on how much wealth players can have in-game. After years of swapping turnip prices with fellow players and hoarding Bells like dragons, one player has found that it is, in fact, possible to have too much money.
While visiting Nook's Cranny to sell some items from their inventory, Reddit user no_maj found that they weren't able to trade their items for Bells through the game's drop-off box. Instead of placing the items in the box like usual, the user was met with a pop-up preventing them from doing so. "," the message reads. It's a pop-up few players will have ever experienced, as it only happens when a player's bank account is completely full.
To really max out the number of Bells, a player needs to have 999,999,999 already stored in their savings. Since the drop-off box outside Timmy and Tommy's shop gets deposited directly into a player's savings account at the end of the day, players who are one bell away from becoming an in-game billionaire will need to offload some of their wealth before making any more sales. If a player's character inventory is also already filled to the brim with bags of Bells, a player will max out at 1,004,059,998 Bells.
There are ways to become a billionaire in, even if a player's savings account is already full. Though the Nintendo Switch won't allow a player to have more than one island per console, creating an additional user profile will create a new character to add to the island. This new player character doesn't have all the same perks as the starting character does, though it does have a new savings account with a max amount of 999,999,999 Bells.
Creating a new character in the same save file also provides another house to decorate. This additional house will also need to be fully upgraded if the player wants the additional 5,000 storage slots, costing a whopping 8,996,000 Bells, though anyone looking to increase their maximum number of Bells won't have to worry about money. Secondary characters have consistently been a way for players to push their creativity a bit further, using the additional home space as fictional shops or other attractions.
Though donating millions of Bells to friends who are still struggling to pay off their loans is always a kind option for players to take, channeling one's inner Jeff Bezos is another possible route. Alternatively, one could also purchase 833 Royal Crowns with all that wealth (and still have some Bells leftover), but where's the fun in that? A new player profile means plenty of opportunity to use ' Bell exploits to become even richer.
