Sea of Thieves gets a spin-off tabletop board game

One of the biggest launches at this year’s Gen Con is not the sort of game you’d normally expect to be as celebrated as it is: Cosmoctopus. Designed by Henry Audubon, the creator of the hit board game Parks, it’ll be released widely on Aug. 18. Polygon had a chance to play the game in advance of this year’s Gen Con in Indianapolis, and we found it to be a surprisingly cuddly take on cosmic horror.

The Sky Team board game arrived at this year’s Gen Con going full throttle. Polygon had a chance to sit in the cockpit of the latest release from the talented crew at Le Scorpion Masqué, the same team responsible for hits such as the wonderful party game Decrypto, the upcoming Dead Cells board game, and the 2022 Gen Con hit Turing Machine. Sky Team is yet another unusual design full of personality, as two players crew the flight deck of a commercial airliner seeking to safely land at their destination airport. It’s quirky, full of tension and clever mechanisms, and it’s also surprisingly good at capturing several aspects of real-world flight simulation.

Google is betting heavily on its AI tools to build the next generation of Google services that will not only retain its existing users but also help bring in more. And, at the top of its new AI pyramid sits Google Search, which is now being called the Search Generative Experience (SGE) after adding AI tools to it. Recently, the company announced that SGE will get a new feature and show multimedia results with images and videos. This means while using the AI-powered Search, you will not just see texts and links, but also images and videos to contextualize the result and show you more specific content.

I’ll admit it: I was skeptical about Call of Duty: The Board Game. First person shooters rely on twitch reflexes and heart-pounding action in an attempt to capture the electricity of armed conflict. Board games, on the other hand, rely on careful planning and measured activity. The two formats are fundamentally at odds. But after playing in a demo of the upcoming Call of Duty board game from Arcane Wonders, I can say that much of my apprehension has fallen away.

Apparently, The Walking Dead’s upcoming slate of shows will not be impacted by the ongoing WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes. In a new update from AMC Networks’ CEO Kristin Dolan via Deadline, she explained in a recent earnings call that the disputes won’t threaten the network’s content until "well into 2024."

I never imagined that Guilty Gear’s iconic pre-battle bark, “Heaven or hell? Duel one! Let’s rock!” would show up anywhere but in a video game. But now I’ve found myself saying it out loud whenever I start a match of Guilty Gear Strive: The Board Game. Adapting video games to the tabletop isn’t new, but the way it’s done here translates the fighting game into something I never thought possible.
