Screen Australia puts up $1m for independent developers

Embattled developer Bungie will showcase The Final Shape, Destiny 2's latest, last, and perhaps most important expansion, next Tuesday, providing an update on the in-development project. The Final Shape was originally supposed to launch in February 2024 but was hit with a delay alongside last year's layoffs.

We all know that bugs represent an existential threat to the future of Super Earth and, by extension, to the players of Arrowhead's excellent Helldivers 2. However, the ongoing Galactic War effort is being undermined by one more treacherous than most. Ubisoft's hotly anticipated PS5 game, Star Wars Outlaws, has been rated in Australia. The filing was made on 20th March (thanks, Kotaku), and there is speculation that a release date could be imminent, although that last part remains to be seen.

Sony first-party developer Bend Studios is staffing up for another «AAA live service» game, and it seems that PlayStation will continue to chase the live service dragon. When we last heard from the Oregan-based developer of Days Gone, Bend said it was still «cooking» and, if nothing else, seemed confident whatever they were working on would take the studio to the next level.

Sony's first-party Santa Monica Studio is currently working on a new PS5 game, that much is known, having wrapped development on God of War Ragnarok with the release of the essential Valhalla DLC. If we had to bet, it will be quite some time before we hear anything more concrete, but one thing's for sure: whatever they are up to, creative director Cory Barlog seems incredibly excited about it.

Helldivers 2 players are now fully committed to the assault on the Automaton homeworlds in a preemptive campaign of «defensive annihilation». The first waves met stiff resistance from the machines, and the entire situation was at risk of becoming a dangerous quagmire for the forces of Freedom. Thankfully, seeing the situation developing, Super Earth is bringing out the big guns, unlocking two new Support Strategems to provide the power needed to punch through all that armour.

A week after Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee gave Star Wars Outlaws a 19+ rating, Australia has also published their rating for the game.

Star Wars Outlaws is officially supposed to launch sometime this year, and though Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment haven’t yet nailed down a narrower release timing for the action-adventure title, recent developments seem to be indicating that it’ll be out sooner than some might expect.
