GSC Game World has hit a number of hurdles during the development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and recently suffered another setback. As reported by Vortex (via @HazzadorGamin on Twitter), the offices of GSC Game World in Prague – where the studio was forced to relocate part of its development team due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – recently suffered damages from a fire.
The fire was reportedly caused by electrical wiring, and of the three floors in the studio’s office, one was damaged, though fortunately, no one was injured. Reportedly, the affected floor contained GSC Game World’s backup servers, with roughly $66,000 worth of total damage being sustained. The studio’s business development manager Olga Ryžko has also confirmed that the entire floor requires renovations.
“Fortunately, none of the employees or office staff were injured, which is a great relief,” she said. “Although the fire has been extinguished, one of the floors of the office now requires a complete renovation. Further details of the accident are still under investigation.”
It is currently unknown how – or if – S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s development will be impacted by the incident, though as reported by VGC, a member of the open world horror shooter’s development team has also addressed the fire in a Discord message, saying, “It is true. Fortunately, none of the employees or office staff were injured in the accident.”
The developer added: “No anomaly, not even a ‘Burner’ will make us stop in our pursuit of our final goal. We’ve dealt with worse than that before. This is fine.”
Earlier this year, GSC Game World revealed that it had also been “enduring constant cyberattacks” by Russian hackers for over a year.
