RuneScape co-creator returns with a new free-to-play fantasy MMO, a decade in the works

Dev Patel’s gritty, gory revenge thriller Monkey Man is soon releasing in cinemas, and is set to unleash a full sensory assault on audiences. But it wasn’t always destined for a theatrical release.

A Pokemon fan recently put together an impressive map of the franchise’s universe, with each region standing in for its real-life counterpart. Every new mainline Pokemon entry to date has taken players to a brand-new region filled with new creatures to collect, cities and other landmarks to explore, and various Trainers and Gym Leaders to challenge in the quest to become the reigning champion of said region’s Pokemon League.

Matthew Mercer, the prolific voice actor who played Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, recently discussed how he first found out who he would be voicing and how much it took him by surprise. While Vincent Valentine was an optional, missable party member in the original Final Fantasy 7, he played a major role in the backstory and larger expanded universe of the original game, quickly becoming a fan favorite that gamers couldn’t wait to see again in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

It’s been over a month since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s launch, but the massive open world action RPG continues to occupy a sizeable portion of our headspace even now, thanks in no small part to how ambitious the game turned out to be, and how effectively Square Enix managed to make good on its vision in what was a relatively short development cycle. To shed some light on that process, the company has released a four-part behind-the-scenes series that details the development of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Square Enix has released new information, footage, and screenshots for Visions of Mana introducing the game’s story, characters, elemental vessels, and pikuls. Additionally, producer Masaru Oyamada confirmed in an interview with Famitsu that the game is developed by Ouka Studios.

Remember Hellgate: London? The dark fantasy action role-playing game came out in 2007 for PC, a year before developer Flagship Studios went bankrupt. Since then, various free-to-play and online revivals have come and gone. Now, 17 years after the release of Hellgate: London, it’s back.

Some Pokemon GO fans are currently taking to social media to criticize a recent update that significantly altered avatar appearances. The Pokemon-style RPG Cassette Beasts is getting a major new update, adding online multiplayer and a host of other interesting features later this year. UK-based developer Bytten Studio and prolific indie publisher Raw Fury released Cassette Beasts on Windows and Linux computers last April, with a wider launch on Xbox systems and the Nintendo Switch the following month. Just like Pokemon, Cassette Beasts tasks players with collecting different elementally empowered creatures, although these monsters are stored within old-fashioned audio cassette tapes and summoned using a handheld cassette player.
