A notable leaker has revealed a title known as Sonic Rumble, a multiplayer battle royale Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off for mobile devices. Sonic Rumble was first leaked by MbKKssTBhz5, or Midori, who has had an accurate track record throughout 2023 and 2024 regarding many unannounced Sega-produced titles. The upcoming Sonic Rumble is one of those games she had leaked previously, including what was the game's working title.
Midori originally leaked the game as Sonic Toys Party back in January. She stated this Sonic spin-off would be similar to Fall Guys, including its platforming mechanics and customization elements. It would also support up to 32 players in one match and would be released for iOS and Android devices. The reason it is releasing for these platforms is to increase its focus on mobile gaming, as seen with previous efforts like Sonic Dream Team and Persona 5: The Phantom X. While early leaked footage said the game was at one point titled Sonic Toys Party, Sonic Rumble will be the final name of this upcoming spin-off, according to Midori.
In a new series of tweets posted by Midori, she first simply posted «Sonic Rumble,» following that up by noting that it would be the final title for the Sonic mobile game that is similar to Fall Guys. This final title seems to be cemented with a thread she posted a few hours later regarding a new URL domain that was registered by Sega on April 18. According to Midori, Sonic Rumble was one of many titles that were considered for the game before deciding on its final title.
Sonic Rumble's gameplay was leaked earlier this past March, which showed off the game's customization and platforming elements. Sonic Rumble's gameplay does bear resemblance to Mediatonic's Fall Guys, with players being tasked with running through various obstacle courses or surviving a boss in order to obtain rings, which are then spent on obtaining costume parts. Stages include areas based on classic levels in the series, like Green Hill and Chemical Plant Zone, while the costumes are modeled after characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman, and even Vector the Crocodile, among many others.
The reaction to the new title was contentious. Some fans wanted this new title to be for a different game, with some hoping that it was for a new fighting game starring the Sonic cast, based on the «Rumble» part of the title. Other fans were concerned about Sega's focus on mobile gaming, which was already a divisive decision for games like Sonic Dream Team, despite its acclaim from fans. While Midori has been an incredibly reliable leaker, fans should still wait until Sega announces more information about the game at a future event like Sonic Central 2024.
