Persona 6 will feature a semi-open world and «more fluid» social link structure, a prominent leaker has said. There have been a fair amount of rumors surrounding Persona 6 over the past few years. Despite there being little concrete evidence of the game existing, that hasn't stopped fans from speculating or hearing about something potentially related to this game. One of the latest rumors is focused on how Persona 6 will overhaul its longtime social link mechanic and the structure of its overworld.
The Social Link system has been a staple of the Persona series ever since the third game. Each game since then has improved and refined its system, adding its own unique spin on it, culminating in the Confidant system in Persona 5. The past three games featured a densely packed world that the player could explore, with Persona 5 giving players access to a variety of places to check out in Tokyo as well. These two integral parts of the series will reportedly be reworked in the sixth mainline entry.
This information was shared on a ResetEra thread discussing the rumored game, specifically about how Persona 6 will possibly be using a high-school setting again. In this thread, notable leaker Head on the Block (previously known as Im a Hero Too) has claimed that, alongside this setting being retained, the game will be adopting a semi-open world experience. They also state that social links will be a lot more «fluid» in the next game as well, claiming players will be more interactive compared to past entries and there will be fewer time restrictions.
The Persona series' social link system has been praised as a system that interweaves gameplay bonuses with socializing with NPCs.
