Epic Games is reportedly working on a major new Fortnite update. According to new information, a new feature geared toward social media integration will be added to Fortnite soon, allowing users to link their accounts across various social media platforms.
Epic Games continues to update Fortnite on a consistent basis, giving both new and returning players something to enjoy. Fortnite is currently in the midst of Chapter 5 Season 2, which brought several new skins and characters as well as dozens of new locations to explore. A dataminer has discovered that Epic Games is working on bringing a picture-in-picture mode to Fortnite, a popular tool found in mobile apps like YouTube, allowing users to watch videos in a smaller window as they continue to use their device. Following Fortnite's V29.20 update earlier this month, reliable leaker HYPEX uncovered that new files in the game hint toward a possible picture-in-picture mode becoming a reality within the game. HYPEX states that Epic Games is currently working on a new feature «where you can link your Fortnite account to some platforms and watch videos while playing.» Epic Games is always looking at new features for Fortnite, with this one having major implications for the game's future.
Hypex speculates that a variety of social media platforms may be supported by the new feature, one of which is TikTok. This is not the first time Epic Games has attempted to incorporate the massive social media platform into Fortnite, with the development team working on integrating video-sharing functionality into the game. This was reportedly scrapped, but with this rumored picture-in-picture mode, it looks like Epic Games hasn't given up on turning its massive, free-to-play third-person shooter into a hub for social media communication just yet. This is far from the first Fortnite feature uncovered by Hypex, but this one has the potential to change the game forever.
Fortnite's Chapter 5 Season 2 launched on March 8 and will last through May 24, giving players quite a lot of time to complete the battle pass and unlock all the limited-time customization options offered during this season. Over the last few content updates, Epic Games added several modes and features to Fortnite, allowing players to race with friends in Rocket Racing or jam out to top songs in Fortnite Festival. Epic Games has made it clear it wants Fortnite to become much more than a third-person shooter, slowly morphing the game into a launching-off point
