Endnight Games has announced that Sons of the Forest, its sequel to the 2018 survival horror sandbox hit, will exit early access on February 22nd, 2024. In a new tweet, the developer revealed that Shawn Ashmore (who played Jack Joyce in Quantum Break) will voice Timmy LeBlanc, with his role in the game and overarching story expanding.

The universe is bigger than anyone can imagine and filled with infinite riches, but that doesn’t mean the best bits are all equally easy to get to. Mankind lost a war for the Outer Reach a long, long time ago, ceding control to the aliens known as Entity, but a thousand years of peace is enough to make a corporation’s greed override its fear. Not only is the Outer Reach filled with resource-intensive planets but it’s also got the wreckage of the space war floating about, mostly untouched by time thanks to the preservative powers of the vacuum of space. That’s a loot-haul that’s hard to resist, so the ScavCorp has sent out a few agents to see what they can find.
The universe of Space Trash Scavenger is one of tiny planets and large bases, with gravity being Mario Galaxy-style playful. In addition to letting your spacesuited wage-slave/adventurer run all around the planetoids, the home base gets the same treatment whether that’s on the single cube it starts as or the sprawling factory/garden you can build it into. Every surface is open for building, with “down” being what you make of it. First, though, you’ll need to venture into the solar system to gather enough goodies to build a comfortable home while fending off the Entity who are unhappy that humanity has come back to their territory.
In classic survival/adventure style the base building and exploration are tied together, with the elements needed to construct a base being refined from the trash and shrapnel scattered throughout the system. The plasma grapple can either reel in items or pull you towards them, depending on how you use it, and the atomizer back at home breaks the junk down into its component elements. These can then be used to build tech like the blocks that expand and power the base, walls and roofs for personal living space, and all the rest of the bits a functioning habitat needs to enable the survival of its inhabitants.
Space Trash Scavenger released into Early Access today, setting off into the unknown with the traditional launch-day trailer. The current development roadmap is six months to a year in Early Access, but as usual that’s an estimate rather than a promise. New blocks and machines plus more story are all planned to be added, but even in its current state there’s plenty to build across multiple star systems. It’s not a great idea to poke around the Entity’s territory, but strong base constructed from the finest trash the quadrant has to offer should be plenty to stand up to its hazards.
