Ratatan Kickstarter campaign launched

All the genres of yesteryear are coming back to life. We've got CRPGs, point-and-click adventures, and, uh, retro LCD games. Yet RTS games—the only noble genre that lets you send entire battalions charging directly into enemy fire because it's easier than coming up with an actual plan—still feel like they're out in the cold. But hey, maybe not for long, because a new one called ZeroSpace hits Kickstarter today and it's got some very lofty goals indeed.

quietly launched a new app that turns the user’s smartphone into a for their TV. This is a sign that Netflix is serious about expanding its cloud gaming services and may have something big in the relatively near future.

In an effort to expand its gaming section, Netflix has launched a new app that would allow subscribers to play games on their TV. Dubbed ‘Netflix Game Controller,' the app essentially works as a touchscreen gamepad, featuring an analogue stick for movement and a set of action buttons on the right. The app is now available to download for free on the Apple App Store, though it seems as though the streamer inadvertently published it a bit early. There's no official announcement from the platform about its use case or an Android release, while the product description simply states that it's ‘coming soon.'

Gen Con is in the books and what a convention it was. The attendance numbers haven’t been released yet, but I’m guessing it might be record breaking numbers. The BGQ crew is busily working on our convention recap, so keep an eye out for that this week. In the meantime, on to the campaigns!

The recent Pokemon Presents stream was a rather unremarkable, as many had predicted it would be, but The Pokemon Company did close it with an extended look at the ucoming two-part expansion for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, The Hidden Area of Treasure Zero. 

The developer behind independent cozy MMO, Loftia, launched a Kickstarter campaign on August 1st to raise money to fund game development. The total raised has now hit over $450,000, and the team has revealed a number of stretch goal features that the additional funds will let them create.

EVE Online is getting a board game, bringing New Eden's internet spaceships to the tabletop.

Patapon spiritual successor Ratatan will be coming to consoles, after a milestone stretch goal in its Kickstarter campaign was cleared.

"Cozy MMO" is a burgeoning new genre in the indie space that I'm fully onboard with, and the latest game to spawn from it is a solarpunk-themed adventure taking Kickstarter by storm.
