Sony’s said that PS5 will “attack” the all-important Christmas shopping period this year, as it seeks to meet lofty holiday sales targets and outpace its predecessor, the PS4. While the company’s latest console has been a huge success, it’s first two years were impeded by stock shortages caused by the pandemic. With those issues now overcome, it intends to really establish its authority on the generation this fall.
Speaking with Nikkei, bigwig Hideaki Nishino confirmed that the company now intends to sell “PS5 at a faster pace than the PS4”, and it’s purchasing components from multiple manufacturers in order to diversify risk. He added that due to the time it takes to develop games, we’re finally beginning to see titles specifically developed with the new-gen system in mind.
“Because it generally takes three to five years to develop a game title, we're starting to see an increase in the number of games that take full advantage of the PS5’s features,” he said. “For example, in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, released in October, the player can roam around a re-creation of New York City. There is no lost time due to loading, allowing players to go wherever they want, whenever they want.”
It does feel like the days of cross-gen titles are slowly coming to an end, with most major releases now targeting new-gen systems like PS5 specifically. With the remodelled PS5 out now, and exciting accessories like the PS Portal to complement it, this does feel like the first holiday season where the system is poised to take off properly. It’ll be interesting to see just how many units it can sell.

Greetings, Polygon readers!
Let’s be honest here, over the decades of video game history, there’s always been an awful lot of joystick wiggling over what game, what console and what graphics card can produce the best graphics.
Christmas is always a great time to spend with the people, games and movies that you love. And today we've heard about a new Elf-inspired Roblox experience that lets you do all three of those things at the same time!
When thinking about AMC's involvement in the industry, you'd be forgiven for immediately picturing how it has licensed its star franchise, The Walking Dead, to several game studios over the years.
Spotify Technology SA's big leap into audiobooks is facing a backlash from US authors who fear they'll be short-changed by the streaming giant. Spotify began offering complimentary audiobooks to millions of customers in October as part of their monthly subscriptions. All of the so-called Big Five publishers signed on, with Penguin Random House LLC saying it was “excited” to place titles on the service.
Wordle was a lockdown phenomenon: one of those games that, merits aside, simply landed at the right time. I've kicked the habit now but like pretty much everyone else I had a Wordle phase with the family WhatsApp group and, yes, when I'm nearly out of chances I have gone running to my six-letter friend Google. Wordle's enormous popularity was such that, in January 2022, the New York Times purchased the game from creator Josh Wardle for a sum «in the low seven figures.»
The latest rumors for seem to suggest that and will be appearing in the film and fans are curious if there’s any truth to the rumors. Here is all you need to know.

God of War Ragnarok’s hotly anticipated free DLC expansion Valhalla, due out later today, will add more Trophies to the game – although they’ll be listed separately from the campaign, so you won’t need to worry about them if you haven’t earned the Platinum just yet. Writing on Twitter, game director Mihir Sheth confirmed the tidbit.
Intense but unconfirmed speculation suggests Insomniac may be working on a Spider-Verse game, influenced by Sony’s recent batch of animated movies. Unverified information being shared online, purportedly part of a recent high-profile data breach, alleges that the title is in development – although we’ve been unable to corroborate anything, and the information is extremely loose.
The trailer is packed with plenty of small details, but there's one thing in particular that helps explain the series as a whole. as a franchise has always been somewhat unlike anything else out there, despite the slew of imitators that it's inspired. With a long history of pushing the boundaries of open-world gameplay and public outcry alike, developer Rockstar Games knows how to spin a series that has no trouble attracting attention at every turn.
The biggest online phenomenon of the year is an animated video series that primarily appeals to children, filled with obscure internet and gaming references that most adults wouldn't understand, and with a name that all but screams scatological humour.
