Prison Architect 2 has been announced, a full 3D sequel to the hit prison management simulator coming from Double Eleven and publisher Paradox Interactive. Promising deeper simulation, more player control and more creative options, Prison Architect 2 will launch on 26th March 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Prison Architect 2 will step into the third dimension with everything that this entails. You can now build a prison across multiple floors with more elaborate structures, and with building tools designed to accommodate this feat. Within that space, you’ve then got myriad management tools to define daily schedules for inmates, policies for how to handle them, and more.
Prisoners now have more smarts, with the ability to form actual relationships with other people, and make decisions based on their wants and needs. This can lead to escape attempts, gang wars and more. You’ll have to try and accommodate this to ensure the smooth running of your penitentiary, whether that’s strict rules or a more lenient approach that puts inmate rehabilitation first.
All of this will be brought together in an upgraded career mode that spans a new world map.
“In Prison Architect 2, our team set out to create the next level in management gameplay,” said Gareth Wright, Game Director at Double Eleven. “A greater degree of player freedom, impactful choices, and inmate simulation come together to provide an enhanced presentation of prison management, in a 3D world. Staple and much-loved features return to manage your inmates, quell riots, prevent escapes, and share your prisons, but now cross-platform! In addition to a new upgrade system, a new Career Mode, and more. We look forward to seeing how players get creative with multiple floors and catwalks to finally construct and expand in 3D. And then optimize and balance their prison’s safety, security, and self-betterment.”
Prison Architect 2 will be priced at $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 with the PC version available to pre-order from today.
The original Prison Architect was a massive success for original developer Introversion Software, with its fun take on the management sim genre and distinctive stylised 2D graphics. The franchise was acquired by Paradox Interactive in 2019 and entrusted to Double Eleven, who supported the game with several content packs, through to a final update in May last year. Now it’s time for a sequel, and this looks like it will be a pretty significant step forward.

Palworld is a game that essentially sends you out into the big open world, pats you on the back, and says "good luck". With only a handful of tutorials to guide you, you're mostly left to fend for yourself, find shelter, and craft weapons to take down the more fierce Pals out there. It promotes creativity, asking fans to find their own solutions to the game's toughest challenges, and I doubt you'll find a more unique way to take down a boss than this.
Cities: Skylines II developer Colossal Order has a uniquely close relationship with its community. The original Cities: Skylines came out in 2015 and gobbled up the audience that was left behind by EA’s SimCity, which came out in 2013 and was a busted mess. Cities: Skylines scratched that urban-planning itch, plus it cost just $30. The game came first to PC, Mac and Linux with modest hardware requirements, and it hit consoles within two years. Critically, Cities: Skylines also supported mods through the Steam Workshop, allowing players to add their own tools to the game and share those features with others.
