Over seven years after the release of Arkane Austin’s sci-fi reboot Prey, one eager fan has finally given up hope for a sequel. The shocking announcement that Xbox is closing the Dishonored and Redfall developer has made a return to the Prey universe an even more distant prospect than ever.
Following the breakaway success of 2012’s Dishonored, developer Arkane Studios split into two separate teams. Arkane Lyon remained in France to work on Dishonored 2, later followed by Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and Deathloop, while Texas-based Arkane Austin went on to produce 2017’s critically commended but commercially lackluster Prey and last year’s catastrophic Redfall. Although Microsoft has just pulled the plug on Redfall, Prey’s innovative sci-fi gameplay and atmospheric psychological horror earned it a cult following, with many gamers still hoping for a sequel.
One avid fan has been loyally keeping the world informed of any news of a Prey sequel. Twitter user Prey2Countdown has been counting the days since the original Prey was released, hoping for Arkane, Bethesda, or Microsoft to give any updates regarding a potential Prey2. While the Twitter account has only been running for a year, their nearly daily updates echo a sentiment shared with many gamers who believe that now would have been an ideal time for a Prey sequel to help the developer find redemption after Redfall's disappointing release. Unfortunately for all Prey fans, no follow-up game was ever announced, and after waiting over seven years, the shocking news that Microsoft is shutting down Arkane Austin for good has caused Prey2Countdown to finally give up hope, commenting only, “It’s over.”
The heartbreaking news that Xbox is closing four Bethesda-owned studios faced a backlash from the industry, including criticism from Arkane Lyon director Dinga Bakaba. Alongside Arkane Austin, mobile game maker Alpha Dog Games, Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks, and Roundhouse Studios – formerly Human Head Studios, the creators of the original Prey from 2006 – are also facing closure. While some staff members will reportedly be amalgamated into other Bethesda developers, such as ZeniMax Online Studios, the team behind The Elder Scrolls Online, the possibility of a Prey sequel now seems even more distant than ever before.
There is one faint glimmer of hope for Prey fans. Arkane Lyon is not facing the same fate as its sister studio, meaning it could potentially pick up the Prey IP in the future. However, this is unlikely to happen any time soon as Arkane Lyon currently has its hands full working on Marvel’s Blade, a third-person action-adventure game featuring Marvel Comics' half-vampire vampire hunter. For now, at least, fans will have to make do with

Planet of the Apes is one of those franchises that won’t go away. The first entry hit theaters like an atomic bomb in 1968 and spawned four sequels, two television series, and a remakesteered by director Tim Burton in 2001. More recently, the Planet of the Apes reboot movies kicked off with 2011’s successful Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which paved the way for Matt Reeves’ critical and commercial smash Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017.
A Prey fan account that's been diligently counting down the days, quite literally, for a sequel to the 2017 FPS, has thrown in the towel now that Arkane Austin has been shuttered.
Redfall, Arkane Studios’ co-op, squad -based vampire shooter, was released a year ago, and quickly panned as broken and undercooked. Despite vowing to work on the issues, and owing players who bought their $100 deluxe edition two promised post-launch heroes, some are still waiting for what they were promised for their purchase.

Stellar Blade was the best-selling physical game in the UK last week, with its launch sales on PS5 being enough to see it top sales charts in the region. Sony and Shift Up haven't shared any official sales data just yet, but this marks a good start for the title, which holds the potential to sell well long-term. TopSpin 2K25 was another new entry in the UK sales chart last week, debuting in third place.
Rainbow Cotton, a poorly remembered 3D offshoot of one of the definitive entries in the cutesy shooter canon, is somehow making a comeback in English 24 years after its original launch, and the devs have provided a helpful explainer on the differences between emulation, remakes, and remasters. The catch is that they might've gotten it wrong.
Fallout 4’s average load times have decreased considerably on the PS5 after the game’s next-gen patch. The recent Fallout 4 patch has been controversial since its release, but it’s not without its perks for current-gen gamers, as shown by this change.
It’s been five years since Game of Thrones ended and a good while since we had a decent video game based on George RR Martin’s fantasy writings that aren’t Elden Ring lore. Yet it seems that Game of Thrones’ cultural cachet still has enough draw to inspire new games of its own. And not just an arguably underrated-if-also-not-particularly-great action-adventure RPG or fairly okay Telltale adventure game, either, but a whole honest-to-goodness Game of Thrones MMO currently in development, according to new rumours.
