There always tends to be one toy every holiday season that's more in demand than any other, making it almost impossible to find. I remember a Christmas when the Buzz Lightyear action figure was that toy, and that may well have just shown my age. Two months out, it looks like 2023's in-demand holiday toy is going to be Pokemon Squishmallows. They continue to sell out almost instantly, regardless of which one gets restocked, so if you've been waiting for a Piplup, you better act fast.
Walmart now has the ten-inch Piplup squishmallow in stock. Slightly smaller than the one available through the Pokemon Center - which is still out of stock - but hey, a Piplup squishmallow is a Piplup squishmallow. The Water-type starter is the newest Pokemon to have received the squishmallow treatment, releasing alongside a Winking Pikachu. Yes, there are only six Pokemon squishmallows, and two of them are Pikachu.

Walmart's Piplup might be a tiny bit smaller, but that also means it's a little bit cheaper. Less than $16 is pretty good for a squishmallow. It's certainly a lot less than the scalpers are charging. Speaking of which, if you have arrived here too late to lay claim to your very own squishy Piplup, don't cave and pay three times the price for a secondhand one. They will be restocked eventually, it's just a case of waiting to see where they pop up and acting quickly enough to get one.
Joining the Squishmallow club is the adorable penguin Pokemon Piplup! The Sinnoh starter looks absolutely adorable as a Squishmallow, with its round body and shining blue eyes. This little guy will add an icy touch to your Squishmallow collection (though, of course, it's just as warm and soft to cuddle).
There's also a slim chance the Piplup squishmallow simply remains in stock from now on. That has been the case for the Winking Pikachu plush, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that's partly because Pikachu has two squishmallows. All of the other Pokemon squishmallows, including ones like Gengar and Togepi which were a part of the initial wave, are currently sold out everywhere and tend to return to that state fairly soon after they get restocked.
Pokemon squishmallows seven and eight will be added to the collection soon. The next Pokemon to be turned squishy will be Clefairy and Teddiursa, although details on price and release dates are yet to be revealed. I'm assuming they'll be here long before the holiday season really kicks into gear though, and that both will sell out even faster than the Piplup above.
