The long-awaited next game was a surprising announcement for this year’s Pokémon Day, but nevertheless, one which has quickly captured the imagination of many. Many rumors and theories are circulating over, but the trailer may have foreshadowed more than it appears to at first glance.
Due to release next year, is set in the Kalos region, more specifically within the region’s largest settlement: Lumiose City. Among the many mysteries surrounding the title is the fact that is currently unclear when the game takes place in relation to previous titles, including, although the trailer released does revolve around an. This suggests that may take place just prior to the modern age seen in the games, matching ’ historical angle. Unlike, however, takes place completely within Lumiose, rather than the entire region.
From what is known so far about, it would make sense for the protagonist to be involved in this redevelopment scheme. Moreover, although the graphics used are not from the final product, the choice of a wireframe aesthetic to introduce Lumiose does feel heavily reminiscent of city builder games. Although Lumiose City is fully explorable in, with numerous shops and cafés, only a few places truly stand out along its streets. The Prism Tower at its center is one of only a few landmarks, with other notable locations including the local museum and train station, as well as the Battle Institute. A game that allows people to place their preferred specialty shops along its streets, as well as likely introducing prototypical versions of more recognizable landmarks, would undoubtedly make Lumiose City feel even more impressive than it is in .
