Pokemon Confirms Its Next Pearlescent Funko Pop! Is Pichu

PlayStation followed up on the success of 2023's Game of the Year contender Spider-Man 2 by turning some of its main characters into Funko Pops. Kraven, Venom, and of course, Peter and Miles all have their own figures, and most of the ones that haven't been made available yet will finally be up for grabs later today. Miles, Kraven, Venom, and a Funko Pop recreation of Peter in his Symbiote suit will all drop on Funko's official site at 12:30 pm EST today (May 17, 2024).

Marvel has spent the last 16 years bringing some of its most iconic comic book characters to life, introducing them to millions more people than ever knew of them in the comics through the MCU's movies and TV shows. Odds are you'd not heard much, if anything, about characters like Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, and Drax before the MCU. Particularly Drax and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy who shot to stardom thanks to their first movie. Fast forward a decade and Groot is now well-loved enough to have an entire range of his own Funko Pops drop all at the same time.

The Pokémon series has been around for nearly 30 years, so it’s no surprise that its fan base has quite a large age range. While the franchise does have complicated mechanics in place — a vast knowledge of Pokémon states is needed to play competitively and shiny Pokémon hunting has been broken down into a science instead of a surprise — but, as a whole, the series’ story and overall difficultly has always been family-friendly and aimed toward a younger audience. This can leave older, more experienced Pokémon trainers wanting more when they cruise through a new Pokémon title.

Pokemon sidestepped its regularly scheduled slate of Funko Pops to release a Cresselia figure at C2E2 this year. It now looks set to do something similar during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, taking place at the end of July, as another rare Pokemon will seemingly be getting the Funko Pop treatment at the event. Cresselia and the many other Pokemon to have already been turned into Pops will be joined by Arceus, and a first look at the figure has already been shared online.

Barbie's reach has extended beyond dolls alone in the toy world too as Funko has revealed three new 65th anniversary figures.

A Pokemon fan has created a number of impressive fusion designs. Pokemon fusions have been a popular trend among fans, as molding two or more Pokemon together can create some very interesting designs. Fusions have had some sort of presence in the mainline Pokemon games sinceBlack and White, as the Legendary Pokemon Reshiram and Zekrom have the ability to fuse with Kyurem. These are the only Pokemon able to fuse officially, however, as every other fan fusion has been non-canon.

Pokemon GO has released the fourth and final update for its Rediscover campaign. In an effort to keep current players engaged and potentially bring lapsed players back into the fold, developer Niantic has been releasing a series of updates for Pokemon GO meant to outfit the game with serious upgrades. The Pokemon GO Rediscover campaign started back in April, and it has unfortunately been a mixed bag so far.
