After months of rumors, Sony officially announced their Remote-Play-focused handheld the PlayStation Portal back in August, and now players can put down their money on the device. Coming in at $200, folks in the US can order the PlayStation Portal from retailers like Amazon, GameStop, and Sony’s own PlayStation Direct store. Those in the UK can also grab it from Amazon or the PlayStation Direct store, as well as from Game. In unknown how plentiful PlayStation Portal stock will be, but if you want to get one at launch, it’s best to pre-order early.
For those that haven’t been keeping up, the PlayStation Portal is not a standalone gaming device, but rather designed to work with Remote Play – in other words, you’ll also need a PS5 to wirelessly stream games from. That said, the device does have some nice features, including a 1080p screen and all the functionality of the DualSense controller. Here’s the full features list…
The PlayStation Portal will be available on November 15. What do you think? Does the device hold any interest? While the asking price is probably a bit high for me, in a world where price was no option, I could see it being a useful little extra for when I want to play AAA games in bed or on the toi… er, in my office.

The PlayStation Portal was a surprise for fans. This is a new handheld coming from Sony, and it certainly might have raised some eyebrows initially. Sony had dabbled in the past when it came to delivering handheld gaming devices into the marketplace. We’ve seen the PlayStation Portable along with its eventual successor, the PlayStation Vita. But since then, Sony has refrained from going further with a new handheld device. That was until they unveiled the PlayStation Portal in May of this year. However, it’s not quite the same type of handheld as Sony’s previous attempts.
As a remote play-only device that will stream PS5 titles over WiFi, the PlayStation Portal hasn’t come across as a device that’s going to have a ton of mass market appeal, though in the build up to its launch over a month from now, it seems to be attracting a fair bit of interest- particularly in Japan.
