As several Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League players complained about the technical issues faced with Rocksteady Studios’ latest game, PlayStation is reportedly issuing refunds to some users. This decision from PlayStation comes over a month after the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a spin-off of the Batman: Arkham series, taking place five years after the events of 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight. This open-world action-adventure game takes place in Metropolis, where the Suicide Squad — a team composed of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark — tries to save the city against the threat of Brainiac and his brainwashed minions. A month after its release, publiser Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had failed to meet sales expectations, with Rocksteady’s nine-year-old Batman: Arkham Knight beating its Steam player count.
Various PlayStation users have reported that Sony has refunded their purchase of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League following their complaints to customer service. Several players requested refunds for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League due to game-breaking bugs preventing them from enjoying Rocksteady’s game. While PlayStation doesn’t usually issue refunds when players are not satisfied with a game, it seems that the company is acknowledging the unplayability ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for some players, canceled their purchase, and credited the game’s price to their account balance.
Some Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League players explained how they successfully got a refund from PlayStation. Reddit user Tris, who originally posted a picture of PlayStation’s customer service confirming the refund of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, explained that they reached out to PlayStation’s customer service through the live chat on their website and gave numerous details about the game-breaking issues plaguing their experience. After further investigation, PlayStation issued a refund for this purchase. Some replies in the Reddit thread confirmed that they had also gotten their money back, while others claimed that their request for a refund was denied, so the decision seems to be made on a case-by-case basis.
Players who are not facing the game-breaking bugs reported by others are eagerly waiting for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Season 1 Update to add the Joker as a playable character. Due to the technical issues affecting the game, Rocksteady Studios postponed this Season 1 Update to March 28 instead of March 8. Rocksteady Studios has outlined several changes coming to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, particularly for its Mutators, in future patches. Unfortunately, players will have to keep waiting. In a new Developer Update, the developer confirmed there won’t be a patch next week.
Long before the Suicide Squad went on to try about killing the Justice League, it dug its own grave. The action-adventure shooter from Rocksteady was born with the burden of living up to the lofty standards set by the studio's beloved Batman: Arkham games. Then, it stepped on a rake when last year's gameplay reveal confirmed that the game would be an always-online, live service looter shooter — a departure from Rocksteady's repertoire of narrative-focussed single-player experiences. And when it finally came out in early access ahead of its February 2 release, the developers had to pull it offline due to a bug that led to full story completion just as players logged in to the game for the first time.
