IPhone threat notifications row: Apple team from US set to rush to India, meet CERT-In officials

Earlier this month, at least nine political leaders from opposition parties received a shocking alert on their iPhones warning them of "state-sponsored attackers trying to remotely compromise” their device. It raised an alarm among leaders as they posted screenshots of the alerts on their X accounts, seeking clarification for the same. Eventually, nothing came of the iPhone threat notifications, and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-in, under the department of MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology), issued a show cause notice to Apple. As per reports, a team of cyber security executives from Apple are expected to meet with the agency.

(They eventually received an Unreal Dev Grant.)

Google brings an experimental ‘Notes’ feature that will allow you to annotate Search results

A common problem many people encounter, especially if they use the internet for research and developing a deeper understanding of a subject matter, is that search engines are not really good at it. Due to the existence of SEO (search engine optimization), the top results are often those that abuse the system the most and not the ones that put a high focus on providing valuable information. This has led to people preferring other sources such as Reddit as a more authentic place for research, especially where people's opinions are concerned. But Google has just launched an experimental feature called Notes in the US and India yesterday, November 15, which aims to solve this problem through a really old trick — annotation.

Meta Platforms will not permit use of AI ad tools by political advertisers

The US Presidential elections will take place next year on November 5, meaning there is now less than one year left for a major election process. Similarly, general elections in India will take place in April-May 2024, which is roughly about six months away. So, this is definitely a time when political promotions and campaigns are going to increase in frequency, and individual political leaders as well as parties will be working to improve their exposure to the public. While a good tool for them would be AI, it may not be the best situation for the voters, who are sure to be flooded with propaganda advertising. Realizing the situation, Meta has come out to declare that no political advertisers will be able to take advantage of its AI ads creation tool.
