Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is coming to Switch

I'm a big fan of the classical fantasy world of Granblue Fantasy. There's just one problem: I don't actually like any of the games. I adore the art of the games, and I enjoyed the narrative crash course of the series' promotional anime, but the titular game is an infamously grindy gacha and the fighting game spinoffs honestly scare me even more. So I'm immensely pleased to hear that Granblue Fantasy: Relink, an action JRPG that's finally approaching launch some eight years after its reveal, is a deliberately different take on the series.

It's September 26, also known as The Last of Us Day, a day when Naughty Dog celebrates its groundbreaking post-apocalyptic series and the community that supports it. 

When Nintendo announced that Game Boy Advance games would appear on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service, I felt a tinge of excitement in my soul. Not because I love Game Boy Advance games, though that is certainly true. Rather, because I could never wrangle together the peripherals and people needed to make many of the system’s unique multiplayer experiences work. So when I saw this morning that Kirby & The Amazing Mirror would be coming to Nintendo’s subscription service next week, I couldn’t help but smile.

Yesterday, Google started pushing the September security update to all supported Pixel devices, and the Pixel 4a was missing from the list of phones that received the event. Today, we have an official confirmation that the software support for the 2020 device has finally come to an end, with the last update being the one released in August 2023.

Nintendo seems to be all in on the nostalgia at the moment, as it recently announced a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door during the latest Nintendo Direct, a game that some consider to be the pinnacle of Mario's RPG outings. The announcement came with a chunky gameplay trailer, in which we see multiple location from across the game gussied up for Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Switch is in the final stages of its lifecycle, but it still has a number of major games in the pipeline. One in particular that was recently announced and has a lot of people very excited is a remake of the beloved GameCube classic, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. From what we saw in its reveal trailer at the recent Direct, it seems to be taking promising shape so far- though it looks like the game will have a caveat on the technical front that many might find disappointing.

Nintendo has announced Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Switch. It is an updated version of the GameCube game of the same name. It will launch in 2024.

No one can make a game nigh-impossible to play for years and years and then get you excited to buy a remake quite like Nintendo, and let me tell you, they’ve done it again. Beloved Gamecube game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has a reputation for being one of finest Mario RPGs out there, second only to Super Mario RPG, and considered by most to be the best in the Paper Mario series. And now, as announced at Thursday’s Nintendo Direct, it’s the latest game in Nintendo’s extensive back catalog of bangers to get an HD touch-up and upcoming Switch release.

After many years of fans begging, pleading, and demanding, Nintendo has finally listened. During the September 2023 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be getting a remaster for Nintendo Switch that will be released sometime next year.
