Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door announced for Switch

The Shiren series has long been a niche one even among the Mystery Dungeon titles. It’s Spike Chunsoft’s own entirely original take on Mystery Dungeon that isn’t based on existing properties such as Dragon Quest or Pokemon and has long since been popular in Japan but not quite as sought after anywhere else. The last entry we saw localized was a remake in the form of Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fates which was originally a DS title before it made its way to modern systems. The newest title, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island was originally announced as coming to Japan with no word on a localization. Fortunately fans no longer need to worry as we’ve finally gotten our confirmed English release for the title to make a splash onto Nintendo Switch next year. The new art style is no longer sprite based and instead entirely 3D models rather akin to the recent Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake we had a few years back. This charming new take on Shiren seems absolutely packed full of life and is promising to bring back the classic gameplay and challenge that so many knew and loved it for.

Today, EA Sports and Codemasters have revealed the updated content for October coming to F1 23. Studio Lights, a Shinjuku-based studio that worked on the environment lighting and cutscene lighting for both Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken, has announced “isekai action RPG” Mononoke no Kuni. It will launch for PC via Steam in spring 2024, with plans to also release on PlayStation, Switch, iOS, and Android. A specific PlayStation platform was not announced.

BeXide has announced roguelike deckbuilder Yohane the Parhelion: NUMAZU in the MIRAGE for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch on February 22, 2024 with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese language support.

PiXEL has announced Futago Usagi no Gokinjo Turismo, a driving action game for Switch based on “Project Rabbie“—character content to develop projects related to cars and music. It will launch in 2024 in Japan. It will also be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2023 from September 21 to 24 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

Nintendo seems to be all in on the nostalgia at the moment, as it recently announced a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door during the latest Nintendo Direct, a game that some consider to be the pinnacle of Mario's RPG outings. The announcement came with a chunky gameplay trailer, in which we see multiple location from across the game gussied up for Nintendo Switch.

Publisher Konami and developer WayForward have announced Contra: Operation Galuga, a new entry in the side-scrolling run-and-gun shooter series. It will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam in early 2024.

Spike Chunsoft has announced dungeon RPG Shiren the Wanderer 6: Toguro Island Expedition Record for Switch. It will launch on January 25, 2024 in Japan with Japanese and Traditional Chinese language support. A western release was not announced.

Nintendo has announced Another Code: Recollection for Switch. It includes remakes of point-and-click adventure games Another Code: Two Memories (known as Trace Memory in Europe) and Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories. It will launch on January 19, 2024.

Publisher Bandai Namco and developer Groove Box Japan have announced SPYxANYA: Operation Memories for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC (Steam). It is based on the popular anime and manga series SPYxFAMILY. It will launch in 2024 worldwide.

Nintendo has announced Mario vs. Donkey Kong for Switch. It will launch on February 16, 2024 worldwide.
