The Sega Saturn’s second controller design has become the stuff of legend over the course of the last 25 years. The original Saturn pad was a bit clunky, but wide, while the second offering was more streamlined – a bit like how the Sega Genesis had a chunkier pad to start, but later got a thinner design for the six-button pad. Each felt a bit different due to the shape of the pads and while the second Saturn pad was better-looking and in some ways more responsive, I always preferred the larger form factor of the first controller.

The Shiren series has long been a niche one even among the Mystery Dungeon titles. It’s Spike Chunsoft’s own entirely original take on Mystery Dungeon that isn’t based on existing properties such as Dragon Quest or Pokemon and has long since been popular in Japan but not quite as sought after anywhere else. The last entry we saw localized was a remake in the form of Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fates which was originally a DS title before it made its way to modern systems. The newest title, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island was originally announced as coming to Japan with no word on a localization. Fortunately fans no longer need to worry as we’ve finally gotten our confirmed English release for the title to make a splash onto Nintendo Switch next year. The new art style is no longer sprite based and instead entirely 3D models rather akin to the recent Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake we had a few years back. This charming new take on Shiren seems absolutely packed full of life and is promising to bring back the classic gameplay and challenge that so many knew and loved it for.

Update: Well, we suppose that was inevitable. Sony has officially confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition is coming to PS5 on the 6th October. It's also heading to PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) a little later, in early 2024. You can take a look at the announcement trailer above.

Fans of the tough pink cream puff can rejoice as one of his games is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. Kirby & The Amazing Mirror is being added to the Game Boy Advance legacy collection on Nintendo Switch Online on September 29. Kirby & The Amazing Mirror will be joining four Japan only titles that made their US debut on Switch Online earlier this month which include Kirby’s Star Stacker, Quest For Camelot, Joy Mech Fight and Downtown Nekketsu March Super-Awesome Field Day! Because Kirby & The Amazing Mirror is a Game Boy Advance title accessing it requires both the Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack membership while the other titles only require Nintendo Switch Online membership. Studio Lights, a Shinjuku-based studio that worked on the environment lighting and cutscene lighting for both Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken, has announced “isekai action RPG” Mononoke no Kuni. It will launch for PC via Steam in spring 2024, with plans to also release on PlayStation, Switch, iOS, and Android. A specific PlayStation platform was not announced.

Xbox Game Pass generally excels when it comes to day one games from first-party studios, but third-party day one releases are much rarer. Today, it was announced that Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be coming day one to Game Pass on Xbox and PC via the Microsoft Store. The Man Who Erased His Name features the Yakuza franchise’s stalwart Kazuma Kiryu returning under an assumed identity after faking his death at the end of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

BeXide has announced roguelike deckbuilder Yohane the Parhelion: NUMAZU in the MIRAGE for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch on February 22, 2024 with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese language support.

PiXEL has announced Futago Usagi no Gokinjo Turismo, a driving action game for Switch based on “Project Rabbie“—character content to develop projects related to cars and music. It will launch in 2024 in Japan. It will also be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2023 from September 21 to 24 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Dragon's Crown developer Vanillaware has announced its next game is a stunning tactical RPG that goes by the name of Unicorn Overlord. It's coming to PS5 and PS4 on 8th March 2024, and you can check out the announcement trailer above.
