Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Switch ‘Our Story Begins’ trailer

In the hours leading up to several gaming news events — like an indie event or a Nintendo Direct — you can see the rumblings of people online discussing a game called Hollow Knight: Silksong. Some share digital summoning circles constructed with emojis and dedicate them to the game in the hopes it will make an appearance at a showcase; others simply express their excitement by sharing memes prior to the event. During a digital event itself, you’ll see viewers spam the live chat with messages like “SKONG [with four airhorn emojis],” or “WHERE SILKSONG????!!??” Sometimes, the phrase “Silksong” will even trend online before one of these events because so many people are sharing their excitement.

It has been the end of an era for the 3DS and Wii U, but the functionality of the Nintendoconsoles’ games may now be better protected than many initially thought. Considering the widespread repercussions, it is easy to see the recent shutdown of online services tied to the consoles as Nintendo destroying the childhood of many people. However, action has been taken to combat the dire effect that this will have on many beloved games, and save them from their fates.

Nintendo has announced the arrival of three old-school games cominf to. Members can now try out the Super Famicom games Wrecking Crew ’98 and Amazing Hebereke and the SNES title Super R-Type. Of the three games, only Super R-Type was previously released outside of Japan.

Earlier this week, the servers supporting online services for all 3DS and Wii U games met their end. Although it's a sad time for anyone who has a place in their heart for the games affected, the community efforts that have followed since are so wholesome that it almost makes the whole thing worth it. Tributes have been flooding in to honor the fallen online modes, and a dedicated subsection of fans are somehow still holding on as the last survivors of the official servers.

Genius Pokemon players have somehow uncovered an RNG exploit in Scarlet and Violet that allows you to generate infinite rare items – including Master Balls – just by changing the date and time on your Nintendo Switch. 

It's truly the end of an era for Nintendo fans, as online services for 3DS and Wii U have finally shut down. With it, we say goodbye to online multiplayer for the likes of Splatoon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X and Y, and Xenoblade Chronicles X, with everything shutting off for good at 5pm PT/8pm ET yesterday (or 1am GMT this morning for UK folks). 

Back in October 2023, the announcement was released that the time for the 3DS and Wii U to die is here…and it is quite sad. On Monday, April 8, 2024 Nintendo is shutting down the online servers for both the consoles as they have aged over time, leaving the Nintendo Switch as the last console to have internet connection as of right now.

Nintendo is already making plans for developing more role-playing games, as suggested by one recently surfaced survey. Specifically, Nintendo currently appears to be brainstorming ideas for new RPGs based on the Super Mario franchise.

Nintendo has sent out a new survey to players asking them about the various RPG series starring Mario.

Koji Kondo joined Nintendo in 1984 and ended up composing basically every memorable theme from the Mario or Zelda series. The legendary composer had a particularly wild idea for a stage effect in last year's Super Mario Bros Wonder, and while that idea was rejected, it did end up giving Kondo the opportunity to bring his voice to the game.

Nintendo is cutting back 120 contractor roles ahead of the release of Switch 2, which is yet to be officially announced. Some of the employees will be laid off while others will be transferred to a different roles within the company.

Nintendo Switch Onlineis adding a classic game that very few saw coming: the Game Boy Advance launch title F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. The futuristic F-Zero series has somewhat faded into the background since the early 2000s, with modern gamers likely recognizing its main protagonist Captain Falcon more for his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series than the franchise he debuted in. There have been a handful of F-Zero games released since the original SNES title, with the most recent one being the online multiplayer battle royale F-Zero 99 that launched on Nintendo Switch Online last September.
