At the tail end of a historic six months for fighting game fans, after the releases of Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, Bandai Namco is about to respond with Tekken 8. In a recent press tour, we checked out a near-final build of the game and also joined a press roundtable Q&A with Game Director Kohei Ikeda to ask for clarifications on various content and features.

Tekken 8's first DLC fighter, Eddy Gordo, has been confirmed to be joining the game on April 1 in early access for players with the Year 1 Pass and will be purchasable for everyone else on April 4.

Tekken 8 is the next entry in one of gaming's longest-running storylines, with the Mishima family's successional feud stretching back three whole decades, but the series is still introducing all-new fighters after all this time.

Tekken 8 may not be launching until January, but Bandai Namco announced the 32nd and final combatant of the game’s roster today. Ladies and gentlemen, enter the acrobatic Taido specialist, Reina.

Tekken 8’s final launch roster has been confirmed with the addition of newcomer Reina, one of three brand-new fighters coming in Tekken 8. She may have a very important role in its story, because she appears to be yet another illegitimate child of series jerk Heihachi Mishima, quite possibly the worst dad in fighting game history.

Consistent character trailers over recent weeks have filled up Tekken 8’s base roster in impressive fashion, and though the majority of these have been known quantities and fan favourites, a handful of newcomers have been revealed as well, with the likes of Jack-8, Azucena, and most recently, Victor Chevalier. Now, Bandai Namco has revealed the fourth and final new character in Tekken 8, named Reina.

When Tekken 8 was first announced, the team at Bandai Namco made it clear that they were doing everything they could to use the PS5 and its hardware to bring out the best in the game. The very first trailer highlighted this principle when they showed off how the characters moved, how things like rain ran down their bodies and the damage that the characters would take over time. But even now, the team continues talking about how they used the expansive PS5 graphics capabilities to deliver something special. During a chat with the PlayStation Blog, Director Kohei Ikeda discussed their actions.

Tekken 8 for PlayStation 5 is the latest entry in the Tekken series, a legendary 3D fighting game series that has sold more than 55 million copies worldwide. The visuals have been completely overhauled from Tekken 7 with all-new, high-resolution playable character models. Small details like the way water droplets run down the characters’ skin and the subtle movements of their hair and muscles are also highlights of the game.
