OpenAI delays launch of online store for custom chatbots

After an announcement was made stating that the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 sales would be halted due to the import ban officially going into effect, both high-end wearables have been removed from the U.S. online store. Assuming you want to try your luck and get your hands on one or both of the latest models, you will be met with the sorely disappointing message that the devices are ‘Currently Unavailable.’

Yesterday, December 21, Apple lost a decisive appeal after the International Trade Commission refused to delay the ban on the sales of Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. These two smartwatches were banned in the US after ITC ruled in favor of Masimo in the patent dispute involving a SpO2 (blood oxygen) sensor used by Apple. As per the ruling, Apple has now removed both of the products from its US online stores and they are no longer available to purchase. The smartwatches are still available in-store and through third-party retailers, but only till the existing stock lasts.

The MAGES.-developed Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds and Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive will be delisted from all digital storefronts along with related downloadable content on March 4, 2024, Rocket Panda Games announced. Users who already own the game and its downloadable content will still be able to access it.

Bandai Namco will release a demo for Tekken 8 on December 14 for PlayStation 5, and on December 21 for Xbox Series and PC, the company announced.

After delaying the launch just a few days ago and indicating that it would see the light of day sometime early next year, Google Gemini AI has finally, been rolled out! Google, the 'AI first' company is finally fighting back against OpenAI's ChatGPT about a year after the latter's launch. Microsoft has reportedly been developing an Xbox mobile storefront that would allow users to bypass Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store and download games off its own application. Earlier this year, Microsoft's gaming chief Phil Spencer, too, had revealed ahead of the annual Game Developer Conference that the company intended to launch its own app store for both iOS and Android. Now, Xbox is reportedly in talks with partners for the same.

Publisher PID Games and Thailand-based developer FairPlay Studios will release turn-based roguelite dungeon crawler The Land Beneath Us for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2024, the companies announced. A limited-time demo is now available for Xbox Series via Microsoft Store until December 31 as part of ID@Xbox Game Demo Fest: Winter 2023.

When news stories emerged last week that OpenAI had been working on a new AI model called Q* (pronounced “q star”), some suggested this was a major step toward powerful, humanlike artificial intelligence that could one day go rogue. What's more certain: The hype around Q* has boosted excitement about the company's engineering prowess, just as it's steadying itself from a failed board coup. Peaks of AI excitement about milestones have taken the public for a ride plenty times before. The real warning we should take from Q* is the direction in which these systems are progressing. As they get better at reasoning, it will become more tempting to give such tools greater responsibilities. More than any concerns about AI annihilation, that alone should give us pause.
