Obsidian espionage RPG Alpha Protocol returns to PC, following 2019 licensing drama

Madrid-based developer Fennec Studio has announced Runa, a turn-based RPG inspired by modern and classic Japanese RPGs. A Kickstarter campaign will launch on April 16.

Fulqrum Publishing have just released a story trailer for New Arc Line, a new steampunk fantasy RPG in which dragons rub shoulders with zeppelins, and dwarves are as abundant as air pollution. Alpha Protocol is returning to PC with full compatibility for current PCs, a licensed soundtrack, and performance improvements. Alpha Protocol was delisted in 2019 from all digital storefronts due to the music rights expiring.The revival has come about with SEGA, Obsidian, and GOG all working together, with the soundtrack having a new license.

Striking Distance Studios, the developer behind 2022's The Callisto Protocol, has revealed what is internally called Project Birdeye, a top-down spin-off set in the same universe. A small team will continue to develop the fast-paced roguelike while the rest of the studio works on another full-scale game, and we got a brief trailer showing off some stylised action.

Alpha Protocol has been re-released on GOG, with its latest version boasting a handful of new features, such as support for achievements and cloud saves. One of the most acclaimed espionage games ever made is thus finally once again available for purchase after almost half a decade in limbo.

After being delisted from digital storefronts in 2019 due to expired music licenses, Obsidian Entertainment‘s spy RPG Alpha Protocol is now available on PC via GOG. A launch trailer has been uploaded to celebrate the title’s return.
