NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" GPU family should kick off with the RTX 5080 graphics card first & followed by the flagship RTX 5090, reports Kopite7kimi.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" GPU family is expected to launch in Q4 2024 and will first include two products, the GeForce RTX 5090 & the GeForce RTX 5080. With the "Ada Lovelace" RTX 40 lineup, we saw NVIDIA introduce the GeForce RTX 4090 first followed by the RTX 4080. Both top-tier cards launched a month apart from each other but this time, it looks like NVIDIA has decided to launch the "80" model first.
The rumor comes just a few days after several media outlets reported that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 should be the only model released this year which didn't make sense at all, especially when there were reports prior suggesting the release of both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 this year. With the confirmation coming from Kopite7kimi, it looks like we should stick with the previous reports as those make a lot more sense.
With that said, nothing is set in stone yet as NVIDIA has yet to start talking about or give us hints about its next-generation GPU family. The NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs announced so far are made entirely for the AI & HPC segment but we know for a fact that there's already a Blackwell GPU IP that will be powering the next generation of RTX graphics.
Based on previous rumors, NVIDIA is expected to have two flagship dies under the GB202 and the GB203 banner. The former is likely going to be utilized by the GeForce RTX 5090 with up to 192 SM units and up to a 512-bit interface while the latter is expected to be utilized by the RTX 5080. The GB203 is rumored to be half of the GB202 GPU with 92 SM units and a 256-bit interface and both GPUs are expected to utilize the latest GDDR7 memory interface.
Although it is highly unlikely that we will see any announcements regarding the gaming lineup at Computex 2024, we can expect to hear some whispers surrounding the next-gen lineup from AIB partners who should be working on them. Realistically, we expect the first teasers by late Q3 at the earliest.
