Rumours of Nintendo’s next console continue to gather pace by the day, and though the Japanese company itself has yet to say anything about the Switch’s successor in an official capacity, leaks continue to insist that the console is set to launch sometime in 2024.
Another report published by Reuters has now claimed the same. As per the report, which cites an anonymous source, Nintendo’s next console will launch this year, contributing to significant growth for the video game custom chip market. Allegedly, the Switch’s successor will feature a custom Nvidia chip. Considering the fact that the Switch itself uses a custom Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, most would have predicted the same.
Previous leaks have also claimed that the console will feature DLSS support, and that it will launch with an 8-inch LCD screen. Recently, it was claimed that Nintendo will announce the console in March, with a release expected sometime in the second half of the year.
A recent report has also claimed that the Switch 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) will feature physical and digital backward compatibility, and even allow developers to make technical enhancements to existing Switch titles. Read more on that through here.

A new report now claims that the Switch successor will be released in March 2025. The Nintendo Switch is now almost seven years old, and a follow-up console was initially expected to launch later this year in the holiday season.

There are many, let’s call them “curious things” that happen in the gaming industry that we’ll never fully understand. For example, remember that Xbox “Business Update” thing that happened a while back? Yeah, we still don’t understand that. Sony has mysteries like why they thought putting the PS3 at $600 at launch was a “good idea,” which backfired on them, as you know. Then, for Nintendo, as the longest-reigning console maker out there, they’ve had plenty of mysteries about the things they’ve done. But the one that fans are still wondering about is the mystery of Mother 3. Today, that mystery continued in the worst way.
For some of us, it’s a good day to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online as Mother 3 heads to the service for users in Japan.
