Now that Amazon has revealed Eternal Frost, Season Four for N ew World, the team has begun to fill in some of the blanks about the upcoming content. Today, we get a preview of the coming season’s narrative and characters.
The upcoming season takes place in the aftermath of the Wars of Crimson Madness. A former Knight of the Roundtable had a falling out with King Artorius and that knight wants to take everything the king loved down. The latest Forged in Aeternum video features narrative designer James Huang, Seasons art lead Brian Patenaude, and environmental artist Valeriia Popova to discuss the narrative of Eternal Frost, characters, and places.
There’s a companion devblog along with the new video that introduces two important characters. The former knight and new commander of the Frostbound, a legion of mutated Varangians to travel around Aeternum to seek artifacts and power to make some dark plans a reality, is one of them. The other is Daichi Saito. He’s a new potential recruit for the Silver Crows hailing from feudal Japan. You'll get an invitation to his dojo and that's just the beginning.
“In terms of the dojo, he's a traveler, it is his place, he's training there sometimes he's you know, growing his little bonsai tree. But in general he's not really spending a lot of time there. So you are supposed to notice it. [It’s] overgrown…So he's just like our players strolling around, fighting.”
For obvious reasons, the team didn't go into much detail but Quest 6 is what they consider one of their highlights. This comes towards the end where you chase this night through existing locations in the Great Cleave, which the team emphasizes adds to exploring new places, but also “you're breathing new life into an existing location in Great Cleave”.
There will also be an island covered in ice that is a result of a very powerful frost artifact. One of the places that Popova enjoyed bringing to life was the inside of the castle on that island, and in particular, the throne area, with its aesthetics and lighting.
Season Four: Eternal Frost, is coming on December 12th.

Thanksgiving in the United States comes with a number of traditional televised events, but maybe none as seamless and low-key entertaining as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Greetings, Polygon readers!
It’s (American) Thanksgiving this week, which means you might watch a lot of TV, but it might not be strictly new releases. But that doesn’t mean television stops; amid all the Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathons and parade fare there’s plenty of new offerings to catch up on. That might be from the year writ large — is it finally time to catch up on Silo or make space for Fionna and Cake in full? Or maybe you’re looking to keep the autumnal season alive with a classic like Over the Garden Wallor a gone-too-soon hit like Marianne.
New World has expanded the PTR test for the upcoming Season 3 update, Eternal Frost. The test now includes additional narrative content, events, and some fixes.
