Whether you're a long-time fan of Macross or new to the name, you are about to be in luck. Nearly every series of the long-running anime is coming to subscription streaming service Disney+ this year — and not just in Japan, but around the world! It is the perfect time to get ready for a mega-rewatch of your favorite series, or to get into the fandom for the first time.
Competing with other major streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, Disney+ has also become a top place to watch anime series legally and easily online. Often streaming both subbed and dubbed versions of both old and currently airing anime, Disney+ is continuing to do what it can to set it apart from its competitors and draw anime fans to its service. Adding all of Macross is definitely a big move by the company, considering just how many series comprise the anime, and how many fans it has around the world.
Macross is the umbrella name for a massive series of science fiction mecha anime that began airing in 1982. It is both a franchise anime series, and a video game series with more than 40 entries! So far in the Macross universe, there are four full anime series, four movies, six OVA series, one light novel, and five manga series (and that does not even touch on the video games). While each series and story is not necessarily a sequel to the previous ones (though some are), there are common themes present throughout all of them that tie them together and make them undeniably part of the Macross franchise.
One of the common themes that is easiest to identify is the name of each series, and what it represents. Of course, they all have the name Macross in the title, and this name always refers to the main human spaceship in each story. This has held true since the first season of the original Macross anime. Other recurring elements include U.N. Spacey, a military branch, Protoculture, which includes ancient astronauts, and the significance of music and idols are key parts of the plot.
The official Macross website announced this week that the Star branch of Disney+ will be streaming most of the Macross series this year. The announcement was accompanied by a special piece of new art by Risa Ebata, the character designer for Macross F. The news announcement also said that Disney+ will be the only streaming service to have all the series at the same time, beating out popular anime streaming site Crunchyroll in that regard.
The titles that have been confirmed for Disney+ outside of Japan are (as translated and reported by AnimeNewsNetwork):
To save you some math, that is 122 episodes of Macross, along with several standalone movies and other shorts! Whether you want to watch the classic anime or the latest series, Disney+ is bringing you almost

When Disney revealed that its 2023 animated movie Wish would have an actual, literal big bad, a certain conglomerate of hardcore Disney fans rejoiced. For the past decade, Disney movies have avoided traditional baddies, but King Magnifico — whose whole schtick is that he’s lying to his people for his own gain while using dark, forbidden magic — seemed like a return to form. With a charismatic performance by Chris Pine, complete with a big villain song and an overwhelming ego, he’s a verifiable checklist of favorite Disney villain tropes.
Some of the best adventures released for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition can be found in Wizards of the Coast’s popular anthologies, including Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, Keys from the Golden Vault, and my personal favorite, Candlekeep Mysteries. But D&D’s decade-long renaissance has also given us loads of classic adventures revised for new audiences, including the legendary Tomb of Horrors. This summer, fans will be given access to another new set of historic modules called Quests from the Infinite Staircase, which is full to bursting with some of the seminal role-playing game’s weirdest encounters.
Originally released for iOS on April 3, 2014, Monument Valley quickly became a classic for its unique use of optical illusion gameplay. The game, known for its mind-bending landscapes and visual design inspired by classical art and architecture, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Brought to our attention by our island neighbors at The Verge, Walmart is currently offering a rare discount on the Nintendo Switch Lite Animal Crossing bundle. Typically this bundle would cost $199.99, but the limited-edition Nintendo Switch Lite that comes with a digital copy of Animal Crossing New Horizons costs just $179.99. Sure, the discount is only $20, but you’re effectively saving $80 on the combined price of both items, and paying less overall than you would for any other version of the Switch Lite.
Sports anime and manga remain one of the most popular genres, with new ones coming out every season. That doesn't mean the classics are not popular now, however, and one manga is continuing to be published more than forty years after it first debuted. After more than forty years, though, it is going to try something really new to keep fans interested, and keep the manga alive.

A core aspect of any adventure is discovering the various mini-games scattered across the lands of Hyrule. Some offer up a simple sum of Rupees when completed, while others reward Link with vital tools and upgrades to aid him on his journey. Not only can they often reap useful rewards, they sometimes introduce the most fascinating side-characters of the franchise. One location, the Carian Study Hall, has two versions of itself available to explore, making it stand out amongst the game’s numerous other Dungeons. However, completing one of these maps clearly offers far greater rewards than the other. As a result, despite the striking comparisons between the two dungeon variants, their differences are arguably far more important to consider.

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is the most widely accepted authority on the English language, and is updated quarterly with revised meanings and new words as our language continues to evolve. Sometimes these words are entirely new creations, and sometimes they are words from other languages that have been adopted for common use in English. This past quarter, 23 new Japanese words were officially added to the OED, showing how much of an impact Japanese culture has even outside of Japan.
