One location, the Carian Study Hall, has two versions of itself available to explore, making it stand out amongst the game’s numerous other Dungeons. However, completing one of these maps clearly offers far greater rewards than the other. As a result, despite the striking comparisons between the two dungeon variants, their differences are arguably far more important to consider.
The Carian Study Hall is found on the eastern side of Liurnia, and is plainly connected to the Carian Royal Family. Although lore states that this side of the family central to is more closely associated with the western side of Liurnia, this immense library demonstrates that their presence was nevertheless felt across the entire region. Moreover, it must be noted that this dungeon plays a crucial role in multiple quest lines, making it an important destination for many Tarnished in their journeys through the Lands Between.
At first, the Carian Study Hall seems structured similarly to any other location. A series of rooms, enemies, and treasures await the Tarnished, with the roaming enemy Preceptor Miriam being one of the dungeon’s stand-out features. Miriam teleports constantly as her health is whittled down, making the battle to defeat her fairly unique. Doing so earns the Tarnished a Sorcery, Magic Downpour, while a few other useful pieces of equipment can be found along the way. However, the true value of the Carian Study Hall only becomes apparent in its second form, which flips the entire layout upside-down.
In addition to Magic Downpour, the Tarnished can also obtain the Carian Glintstone Staff and Cerulean Seed Talisman in the regular form of the Carian Study Hall.
The method used to unlock the inverted Carian Royal Study is actually connected to what is arguably ’s coolest quest. By progressing through Ranni the Witch’s quesltine, she will eventually give the Tarnished the Carian Inverted Statue. Much as the name implies, this is a statue of a Carian Scholar that places the figure’s head at the bottom of the carving. Placing it on the pedestal found in the Study Hall’s entrance below the globe will cause the entire tower to change, creating a brand new path to follow for equally new, but much more valuable rewards.
From the outset, it is immediately clear that navigation is as much of a challenge in the inverted Study Hall as combat is. Instead of using a lift, the Tarnished now climbs through an upside-down window into a tower where the water flows upwards. The Tarnished must then navigate the altered architecture whilst dodging Preceptor Miriam’s magical arrows before defeating her once again and earning the Sorcery Lucidity. The Tarnished can also find the Mask of Confidence as a reward for exploring this
