MultiVersus has been gone for quite a while now, with no real hints as to exactly when it'll be coming back. We had an official announcement at the end of 2023 that news would be shared "in the coming months", but we've had radio silence ever since. Daniel Ross, the voice actor for Uncle Shagworthy, Stripe, and Gizmo, also tweeted a rather cryptic smiley face emoji at the start of this month, hinting at incoming news, but our biggest clue has come from Steam.
First spotted by MultiVersus dataminer MultiverSusie, it seems as though two new apps were recently published to Steam, both of which are linked to MultiVersus. We don't know exactly what these apps include, but the main theory is that these are new and updated Founders Packs that have been added to Steam in preparation for the game's return to the platform's storefront. MultiverSusie also mentions that something like this happened with the beta's Founder's Packs as well.
It also makes sense that Player First and Warner Bros, would release New Founder's Pack as well, since the original ones were removed from the storefront along with MultiVersus so people didn't accidentally buy them for a game they can't actually access right now. If they are new Founder's Packs as speculated, it would also make a lot of sense for a MultiVersus comeback to be revealed in the very near future.
It's worth keeping expectations in check though, as not every Steam update means news is coming. It can be a good sign that something is coming though, as recently demonstrated by Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay trailer.
As for what we might see from a MultiVersus return, it would be very odd if the game didn't relaunch with a new character or two. The game's recent McDonald's promotion implied that MultiVersus now has a 24th character that we don't actually know about, though it could be a simple typo, while the game's lead character artist hinted that the team at Player First is working on a character that is "constantly angry".
There are a couple of Warner Brothers characters that fit that particular description, though there is only one ever-exasperated duck that most fans have their fingers crossed will be added in the future.
