You might think that Mortal Kombat players would be numb to grisly finishing moves by now, but Mortal Kombat 1's new "disturbing" Thanksgiving Fatality has proven that not to be the case, as it's shocking the whole community with how gross it is.
Despite generally being regarded as the best-playing Mortal Kombat there's ever been, Mortal Kombat 1 has seen more than its fair share of controversy since it launched in September, with most of the complaints being aimed at the "predatory" Premium Store and its high-costing items and costumes. By far the biggest example of this was the Halloween Fatality, which cost an eye-watering $12 and was pretty weak-sauce for the game's first paid Fatality.
I've previously given every Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality a rating out of 10, and the Halloween Fatality sits at a soft six for me. It's funny, but there's just not much pop to it, you know?
Although the Halloween Fatality was rightly slammed by Mortal Kombat 1 players when it released, it seems that the same won't be said of the upcoming Thanksgiving Fatality, which players have deemed "disgusting", "disturbing", and "gross". After seeing it for myself, I can confirm that all three descriptors are accurate, because yeesh.
Twitter user and Mortal Kombat inside thethiny somehow managed to get their hands on the Thanksgiving Fatality early and posted a video of it in action. It starts off innocently enough with a table full of Thanksgiving food, before whoever is performing the Fatality breaks the opponent's jaw with the table, stuffs them full of Thanksgiving food, chokes them with a turkey, and then jumps on their stomach, squeezing it all out in a mix of blood and sick.
This Fatality would get a straight 10/10 from me. It's funny, disgusting, gory, and inventive, all the staples of a Mortal Kombat classic. Just a shame it's so expensive in a full-priced game.
As a Brit, I can only imagine that it's pretty accurate to what it feels like to eat Thanksgiving, and it seems that a lot of other Mortal Kombat 1 players agree, as they've flooded the comments to point out how "gross" the move is. One Twitter user even called it the "best Fatality I've ever seen", which is honestly a little hard to argue. It really is that grim.
As a nice little bonus that seems to have turned the tide on the seasonal Fatalities even more, NetherRealm also announced earlier this week that anyone who paid for the Halloween Fatality would also get the Christmas and Thanksgiving ones for free. That makes it around $4 for each Fatality, which still isn't great but is much better than paying $12 for just the one.

Mortal Kombat 1 just added JK Simmons' Omni-Man to the game so players are turning him into J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man and making Yuri Lowenthal's Smoke look like Spider-Man while making the two duke it out.
These players don't want to pay for skins that could previously be earned through gameplay.
One of Mortal Kombat 1’s big draws is Invasions mode, a seasonal activity where players can battle remixed kombatants and powerful bosses to unlock a bunch of in-game goodies. Your opponents in MK1’s Invasions have all kinds of special powers, and some of them can feel downright unfair. Developer NetherRealm Studios tries to balance Invasions’ challenge by giving players some superpowers of their own. One of the most deadly, but certainly not silent, is an ability called Windbreaker that lets fighters pass a toxic green gas.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameo system features support characters who you can call in to perform special attacks in a limited fashion. Some of the Kameo characters are just that, and are not part of the roster of playable characters. But that hasn’t stopped one modder from working to make them playable.
All Mortal Kombat 1 characters have Brutalities — unique moves that end a match in a particularly brutal fashion. They’re triggered by doing an extra input command on top of a specific combo ender or move that wins the final round. Most of the characters in the game have six brutalities, but players are starting to discover hidden brutalities, too.
Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Mortal Kombat 1's monetized Fatalities, Warner Bros. Games has confirmed the price and release date for its Seasonal Fatality Bundle, which will feature unique Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Winter Fatalities.
NetherRealm Studios recently dropped the official trailer for Mortal Kombat 1's Invasions Season 2, titled Season of the Blood Moon.
The newest season for Mortal Kombat 1’s Invasions mode is now available. Season of the Blood Mon features Nitara from a timeline where Vaeternus reigns supreme. Upon learning that her species failed in other timelines, she rallies her forces for an invasion.
The microtransactions of Mortal Kombat 1 have once again been thrust into the spotlight.
WB Games titles are no strangers to controversy surrounding monetization methods, and sure enough, Mortal Kombat 1 has attracted some of that as well, having drawn criticism from the community for its lack of alternate skins in DLC, and its recent Halloween-themed $10 Premium Fatality, among other things.
Warner Bros. has attempted to placate angry Mortal Kombat 1 players with two 'free' Fatalities following an outcry caused by the decision to introduce a $10 USD Fatality animation to the game's already heavily criticised premium store.
