Mortal Kombat 1’s next Kameo fighter is Mavado, the high-ranking commander of the ancient Red Dragon clan, and his release date has just been revealed. While Mortal Kombat 1’s main roster consists of revamped versions of classic characters in a brand-new timeline, the secondary Kameo fighter line-up contains the time-displaced original versions of combatants from across the old Mortal Kombat games. These older incarnations can be summoned to help the player during matches, adding new combos and strategies to Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay.

A new piece of merchandise for Mortal Kombat 1 shows an early shot of the base roster that adds evidence to the theory that Ermac was supposed to be playable at launch.
Although Mortal Kombat 1 has seen some big improvements since it launched and now has an even better roster with the addition of Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Quan-Chi, it's still fair to say that the DLC fighters have some problems. Although they all play great, the way they've been released without alternate skins and then not updated for Invasions has been frustrating, to say the least.
Before any of those issues, though, Mortal Kombat fans haven't been all that impressed with the original MK characters being added as DLC. Quan-Chi and Ermac are very popular fighters, but their importance to the main story made it very strange that they weren't in the base roster, causing many to believe they were cut and turned into DLC. Don't even get me started on Shang Tsung.
That theory is one that's been held within the Mortal Kombat 1 community for some time, especially considering how important Ermac was to the story and that it was said that MK1 would have 24 characters at a launch, something that didn't end up happening. It's been so long since Mortal Kombat 1 released that it was thought this theory would remain that way, but a new big piece of evidence just popped up.
As shared by Twitter user TheMKSource, Mortal Kombat 1's soundtrack is about to get a vinyl release and it's sleeve features artwork of the main roster. Strangely, though, there are 24 characters shown on there when the base game only launched with 23, with Ermac being shown on there despite being a DLC fighter who is releasing more than six months after launch.
Ermac is also shown with his mask off despite it being a prominent part of his character now that he's DLC, suggesting he originally wasn't going to have it.
Ermac being displayed here alongside every other fighter who was on the base roster (and notably not Quan-Chi, who was a DLC character) suggests that he was supposed to be the 24th character and was cut from the game at the last minute. It's not a direct confirmation of that being the case, but Mortal Kombat fans think that it's the most concrete evidence we've had so far.
You could make the argument that whoever produced the vinyl just slotted a character in there to make it look even and chose one of the original Mortal Kombat characters over Omni-Man or Peacemaker, but it still wouldn't make sense since Quan-Chi would surely be on there as the first MK character released post-launch.
