The Minecraft brand’s versatility means there’s no shortage of different kinds of gaming experiences it can provide, and we got a taste of that with the launch of dungeon crawling action RPG Minecraft Dungeons with its launch in 2020. Over three years on from its release though, support for the game is ending.
Mojang has announced that update 1.17 was the final major update for Minecraft Dungeons, and that its development team is now focused on developing “new projects”, which are also set in the Minecraft universe.
“As 1.17 wasMinecraft Dungeons’ final update, our team has now moved on to new projects that continue to explore experiences in the Minecraft universe,” Mojang wrote. “This means that there are no new features or content updates planned for the game. We do intend to continue bringing new experiences to the Minecraft universe and give our team the freedom to keep exploring the types of games they’re passionate about – just as they did with Dungeons.”
Mojang has also announced that Minecraft Dungeons has exceeded 25 million players worldwide.
Meanwhile, another Minecraft spinoff, action strategy title Minecraft Legends, launched earlier this year for PC and consoles, and had crossed 3 million players within a couple of weeks of its release.

Shadowrun and Battletech studio Harebrained Schemes have "parted ways" with Paradox Interactive - or what's left of the company have, at least. Paradox have announced that they're cutting Harebrained loose to pursue publishing opportunities elsewhere following dismal sales of the studio's latest release, swaggering 1930s-set Indiana XCOMalike The Lamplighters League. Paradox will keep ownership of The Lamplighters League and other games developed by Harebrained, though the Crusader Kings publisher have no plans for a project or sequel in the same genre.
Samsung and Batteries Plus have announced a new partnership wherein 35 Batteries Plus locations will become Samsung Authorized Service Centers. The two companies have been working together since 2018, though Batteries Plus has mostly acted as an independent service provider that handled out-of-warranty repairs.
The creepy home invasion horror movie The Strangers has become a bit of a cult classic since its release in 2008. While the series did garner a 2018 sequel, The Strangers: Prey By Night, it never quite spawned the franchise you might expect from a hit horror movie. But director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Exorcist: The Beginning) and Lionsgate are here to fix that with a trilogy of new Strangers movies inspired by the originals.
Minecraft players have launched a petition demanding developer Mojang ends its annual mob vote — in which the community gets to vote on a new creature to be added to the game — saying the process 'leaves fantastic ideas on the cutting room floor' and only serves to highlight Minecraft's anaemic content release cycle.

Starfield has only been out a month, and someone has already been to every planet in its universe. While Todd Howard said we’d be able to visit over 1,000 planets, the Bethesda dev actually undersold the sheer scale of Starfield’s galaxy - there are actually close to 1,700 planets, and now someone’s seen them all just weeks after launch.
It’s been more than a hot minute since we’ve had a Silent Hill game. Last year’s announcement that the series was making a return caused joy (and a bit of relief) in many fans’ hearts. As well as brand-new interactive series, we’re also getting a remake of Silent Hill 2, and some updates on Steam suggest we may hear more about this project soon.

The next Mob to come to Minecraft is being decided by the players. The development team has created a large vote where players can submit to select which mob they want to see in the upcoming update. There are only a handful of choices to pick from, and these are slowly being revealed by the team.
