Bungie recently replaced Marathon's director, as the studio could be hit with more layoffs after the release of Destiny 2's upcoming The Final Shape expansion.
As reported by IGN, the next live service game by the Sony-owned studio is now being directed by Joe Ziegler, Valorant's former game director, replacing veteran Bungie designer Christopher Barrett. It is not yet known if Barrett is still at Bungie.
The development of Marathon is proceeding alongside works on Destiny 2's Final Shape expansion, but the release of the expansion for the popular game may end up marking another round of layoffs at the studio. According to one person with knowledge of the studio's budgets told IGN that nothing adds up and something will have to happen to "curb costs unless The Final Shape does so well to cover the gap and people can move to Marathon."
Things haven't been going well at Bungie since Sony's acquisition. The IP known as Matter was reportedly canceled in 2020, as was another similar project in 2022. As senior company leadership is expected to leave during Summer 2026 when the final payouts from Sony's acquisition take effect, the studio is trying to get Marathon out before then to leave whoever takes over to worry about supporting the game.
Marathon is a sci-fi extraction shooter with a focus on three-player teams, survival mechanics, an injury system, and more. Additional information on the game can be found in our report.

You'd struggle to find a game right now more up in the air than the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake that was first announced back in 2021, a project that has swapped developers multiple times since then and very few official updates on whether it will actually release at all. With all that uncertainty, fans no longer have confidence that it will even be a good game if it sees the light of day, and PlayStation maker Sony is apparently of the same mind.
A SaGa Emerald Beyond playable demo is now available for download on PC and consoles, offering a different experience depending on the platform.
Journalist Jeff Grubb recently claimed that Konami and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake is going to be showcased at an as-yet-unannounced PlayStation event in May, and another leaker is now corroborating that.
Sony announced a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic three years ago during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Since then, the trailer was delisted, it was indefinitely delayed, and it changed developers. Fears of it being cancelled have been mounting as both Disney and Embracer remain quiet, but developer Saber Interactive insists that it's still in the works and only yesterday revealed that the project is "alive and well".
Since its reveal at PlayStation Showcase in 2021, Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic Remake has had a tumultuous development history. The remake of the beloved RPG from 2003 was delayed indefinitely and changed developers in 2022, with Saber Interactive taking over from Aspyr. Last month, Saber along with other studios under its brand and its licensed IPs, was sold for $247 million by Embracer Group, creating further uncertainty around the remake project. Now, Saber has confirmed that the studio is still working on the game.
After a last-minute delay to "scrub the branding off," the PS1-style racer Bloodborne Kart is now known as Nightmare Kart, and it's finally set to launch in May.

There's been a lot of chatter about this Stellar Blade demo recently. First, it was released accidentally, and although Sony took it back down pretty quickly, it wasn't fast enough to stop a few people playing and sharing footage online. So, we knew a demo was coming, and it wasn't much later that we got official confirmation. Now, the time has come: it's available to download and play right now on PS5. Those in the US can click here, and it's here for UK readers.
Arrowhead Game Studios warnsHelldivers 2 players to stop throwing snowballs during matches as using the items can cause the game to crash. The co-op shooter continues to be a massively popular title, thanks in large part to the ever evolving galactic war. Through major orders from the game master known as Joel, players are dynamically altering the Helldivers 2 battlefield, pushing back enemy factions or sometimes losing planets as well.
